Was the 6.5 cm really a necessity?

All kidding aside, the non-magnum 6.5's are all fun and accurate. Their lack of recoil could be a contributing factor to their perceived "inherent accuracy". My guess is that the Creedmoor is in the process of replacing the 308 Win.
Will never happen in reality...Not in this dimension. Yall can keep dreaming.

Maybe in recent sales since the 6.5 boom, but it doesn't have a 65+ years history, like the .308 Win.

I'm pretty much thinking the same thing. Looking at the numbers, it looks like the only real advantage the Creedmoor has on my 260 is better marketing. Good round, don't get me wrong, but remington's Marketing department should be canned imo for letting good rounds like their 6mm Remington, 260, 280 and others just fall off the mainstream.
Remington could screw up a gold bar.

Not sure how this quote thing works, but I agree with Mudrunner. On page 12.
Had the 260 been available in AI form and done right by Remington. It would have been king of the hill.
And when Ruger brought out the M77 No ll in that cart. With an 8" twist . I'de have been totally sold on it.
Would have been great.
However , they didn't.
My Creed with it's18.6" barrel gives 2775 with 130s and 2600 with 140s
And it still produces 1 shot stop and drop kills of caribou. So far out to nearly 400 yards. And those with Scirocco 2s and 130 he TSX Flat Base.

The 6.5 Creedmoor is what the 260 remington should have been. Remington didn't twist the 260 properly and it's too long to fit in a short action magazine box while using long, high B.C. bullets. The Creedmoor fixes those problems.
Remington never puts an adequate twist rate on their standard factory rifles to handle the heavy for caliber bullets.

They mass produce those rifles for the mass markets and the most commonly used factory ammo to feed them.

Their slow twist barrels more than anything else have given us a burgeoning market in custom barrel manufacturers.

Wow this is what kills me about this site...
210 comments about the relevance of the freaking Creedmoor yet guys with serious questions can barely get any input... just sayin
What else is there to say? We're beating a dead horse! This has been discussed so many times across the internet. Most everyone has said their piece already so there's not much left to say

All you need to know is.
140 ELD
H4350 and a Athlon optic.
Boom!!! You now have a lazer guided 2000 yard elk killer.

Well as we all know, Emary and DeMille saw the "necessity" of a new cartridge that would perform as a target round for both semi-auto and bolt gun platforms. As a target round, it did not out perform a few existing 6mm's, like the Dasher for example. When you look at equipment lists for what pro's are using the 6.5 Creedmoor is not at the top of the list. That is likely to continue. I think the 6mm Creedmoor will overtake the 6.5CM in that category. Have built three 6.5 CM's and they all shot great but were nothing special in comparison to other choices. Fun to shoot though and Hornady's ammo is first rate.
