I haven't heard of the repeater being available.
Do you happen to have a link?
I have been thinking about getting some of the Baefong radios but I would like to have the most distance I can get

Looks like the Rapid Radios use cellular towers. Pull up one of the many maps of cellular coverage to determine if where you will be will have coverage.

What kind of range are you getting ?

We were talking across town, about 2 miles or so through town. Up on a Mountain, don't know yet.

Was using Midlands but now use the Baofeng UV-5Rs. Nice radios and impressed by the quality, even though they're made in China. Took me about 10 minutes to get a certificate to operate via an online test.

@kanab ram : What radio service was the online test for? Was there a fee?
