Vote. Favorite caliber for whitetail deer

My .300 Win Mag has been my go-to rifle since I bought it in 1977.

I have taken a lot of whitetails, most of them with a .280 rem using 140s or 160s. Add in elk, mulies, black bear and antelope. Bump it up to the A.I. version and it will do it all.

No choice for.25-06 it's .257 or real close to 6.5 MM
But it works well out to 3 or 4 hundred yards. Light recoil Flat Shooting
I really like mine.

I have, and have always had a soft spot for the old seven bore.
Ballistics are great, for any given weight, SD, is always good, deer don't like then worth a ****.

Pretty much do it all with my .300 win mag. Killed everything from little whitetail to bull elk with that rifle.

I've shot nearly equal number of deer with my 257 wby and 308...only one with my 240. Plan to hunt with my 6.5 now. They all work, really comes to what terrain and how I have a rifle set up

i like 30 cal for the wide range of bullet weights and types. 125 gr for light loads for the kids, my favorite load for the woods a 150 gr roundnose or a sleek 165gr to reach out if needed.

I really don't think there is much a 6.5/264 won't take down. Imo

I've taken more deer with my 25-06 and 300 Win Mag but my favorite caliber is 7mm/.284, specifically 7mm-08.

I've used most of the popular calibers for deer. This is the first year I tried out the 6.5x47. One loaded with 130 Bergers, another with 130 Accubond. Took ten deer in total and couldn't be happier with terminal perforce of both bullets. Simply devastating.

Add me to the one's using the 257 most often. 25-06 out to 5-600 yards has worked for me since Remington 'legitimized' it in '69.

7mm-08 has proven to be a perfect match for whitetail. Near instant kills as opposed to 7 mm rem mag which often require a short track.
