Ultra highend optics: Schmidt Bender vs. others and some perspective

My parents are dead posh then - Macclesfield! - War of the Roses - still alive and kicking - thank god. And how could one forget the Goodies. I've had pinings for long forgotten things today. Do you remember "Ripping Yarns" - "Across the Andes by Frog" and "The testing of Eric Oldthwaite"? Tomorrow could be an AMAZON day!

CP,
I lurk here from time to time.I've been a S&B customer since 1986.All of my big game rifles wear S&Bs.Of todays S&B lineup,I feel the 1.5-6x42 Zenith is the best "All-around" riflescope made by any manfacturer,Period. But beware, like the potato chips,You can't own just one.

dave7mm,
Thats your opinion mate and i respect your right to an opinion, what annoys me is when someones opinion is shot down in flames because it differs from that of others.

Ian.

PS. Nice set up.

CP,
Thanks CP.
I usually run amok of the Leupold faithful when I make statements like, In 15 years of IBS,NBRSA BR group shooting and 30000+ rounds I've never had a Leupold not quit on me.At one time I had one on the gun,one in my shooting box,and one, somewhere in route to Oregon.Pretty much all shooting season long.Unless your willing to do Tucker conversions or even more outlandish modifications, then more than likley your going to have problems. But thats just my opinion, based on my experience. To be fair to Leupold everything else I ran on HV and LV rifles quit as well.
About this time some of the faithful will chime in and ask me WHY,if S&B is so great,WHY don't I use one my BR rifles? And the answer is that I would if they had a model with enough power to suit me.But they dont.
My first S&B from 86 is a 1.5-6x42 steel tube.Im not going to sit here and say that I have anywhere near the number of rounds on that scope as some of my BR rifles. But for quite a number of years now I have beat that thing unmercifully.
At 20 years of age optically it has just a touch of yellow. And more than a few battle scars. And it still works perfectly.I would take it hunting today with complete confidence.I think I got my moneys worth.

Ian.

Dave7mm,
I only lasted 2 seasons of HV here in the UK, not because i did not like it but because apart from a couple, all the other shooters were $hitheads who did not like being shown up by an outsider.
I used Leupold BR36 exclusively and found it very good except in low light.
I have been using Leupolds for 6 years now and have not had as much as a hiccup from any of them.
However i found out last july that my Mk4 LRT bounced very well along the kitchen floor and even though i let out a tirade of obsceneties, i was relieved to find that it held its zero perfectly.

Ian.

Nice web sight.I am a tool amd die maker by trade. So I typically have a "eye" for quality machine work.

CP,
Thats the fun of it.You know you have arrived when you get the "looks could kill" from the $hitheads.By taking there trophies home.Always got a kick out of that.
I had and still have BRs and BR-Ds.The early BRs were the most problems. But I had the BR-D model with the suppossdly extra erector tube spring also poop the bed.My definition of pooping the bed is a rifle that will agg in the mid ones open up to the mid .4s.Had it happen in the middle of a match once. What the #%^&*^ is that?Tuckers conversion resolved these problems for me.I may bitch about Leupold from time to time but I still have something on the order of 18 of them.I have had several that have killed HUNDREDS of woodchuck and had no problems.I wouldn't have one on a
big game rifle. But thats just me.
