There was some USA citizen truck drivers caught in Canada that they would not let them in till the trucking company owner got their family to round up birth certificates or left home pass ports to get in. In the days after 9-11. Every port I have crossed into Canada is completely different. I have crossed in and out of Canada from Washington state to Maine.
Being a retired Wildlife Officer (Certified Police Officer) Under the federal law can carry concealed nation wide. I think there is a flag on my registration. When I went into Canada on trip to Alaska alone in 2012, I sat at a North Dakota entry port for over an hour while they searched my vehicle for a pistol.
