Tikka 7RM elk bullet

Loading 140 Partitions in a 6.5 PRC for a friend at this moment, going to finish it up today and get his rifle back to him Its shooting at around a half in at 100 yards from one of those crappy CA Ridgelines He wants to elk hunt with it next year, I'm pushing him for something a little bigger, but it will do if he shoots well.

My Tikka T3 7RM shoots bullets in the 160grain weight range in sub 1\2moa groups but hates anything heavier!

160accubond would get the nod from me based on your barrel twist and required range.

Based on my results with 113gr Stone Hammers in my 7-08 I would also consider a Hammer bullet in the 140 weight range if you arn't going past 600yds. Hammer is great at high velocity but doesnt buck the wind at ranges past 600 like higher BC bullets.

If you plan to shoot past 600yds then I would switch to a softer bullet with higher BC like the 160eldM for long range impacts and reliable expansion. But I would be careful with the eldM at high velocity close range shots(below 200yards), they are devastating in soft tissue but not great at breaking heavy bones.

Its all about picking a bullet for the impact velocity you hope to be at.

I have had great success with Barnes 145LRX. Have yet to recover one out of an elk including this year's which was a 550 yard shot on a cow, complete pass thru. The one in the picture was recovered out of a mule deer this year, steep quartering away shot, 3 plus feet of penetration stopped in the off side shoulder.
