Thieves Amongst Us

I'm pretty sure this guy is one of those wannabe social media fake famous "influencer" types. I do have to wonder if this is all a hoax with "engagement" being the goal. I don't feel sorry for him, this stuff happens all the time, especially in Billings.

I use to only stay at motels that I can back truck up to door. Game camera in window and have a duffle that has the "stuff that I want to keep" that comes in with me. All firearms, ammo, bows arrows etc come in room. Figure I should be able to make a stand there.😂

But Ok, here is my travel hack to protect your gear. I stay in KOA's Kamper Kabins which you can park truck right next to the cabin. KOA's have decent park entry security as another safety net. Not all KOA's are open late fall but ones that are you can usually get reservation (until this posting). KOA's have showers too. Join and save 10% so if you stay few times get good ROI! I just plan my trips to hit a KOA based on timing. Other option is stay in one of their campsites.

Sword, and the iconic TX thing.

Most people have no clue what DRB and P100 stickers are.

I used to travel a bit shooting in high power matches. Though I carry weapons in the hotel, I still back up the Taco against structures. The Truck Vault drawers work well against thievery, plus they satisfy interstate weapons travel, weapons and ammo separated. They are just delaying mechanism for the grab and go perps.

I put up a Two Person tree stand that took several trips and days to get set up. Went to my stand at 0530 and put the light on my tree and NOTHING! Now it had to take several persons to take down the stand and carry it out almost one mile. Why would someone take the chance getting caught stealing in the middle of the woods?

Whenever I was traveling, I always carried my firearms to the hotel room. Was hunting for Coyotes long distance and carried several rifles in Tactical cases through the Lobby of a Hampton Inn due to only Lobby entrance. The hotel clerk called 911 and had the State Police, Sheriffs Dept, and SWAT show up. CHECK with the hotel you stay in when making reservations.

If you are in Liberal run States/Counties and your firearms are stolen out of your vehicle -YOU may be charged with having unsecure firearms and not the scumbags that stole your firearms.

One year while traveling from Lafayette Louisiana to Colorado we had a duffel bag stolen almost there so on the way back we took elk guts and clothes we didn't want anymore and the tent that came apart and put them in our only one duffel bag left and guess what, someone stole it while we were eating at a Wendys.
I wish I could have seen the look on their faces on the stolen goods they got!

Not to one-up your story. One of our shooting buddies got nailed in FL.

We have a habit of winding down on the parking lot after service rifle matches and clean uppers and bs about. This guy was cleaning his upper, no lower in front of his motel door. Apparently, someone came up to the clerk and reported that a black guy is on the parking lot with a AR15. Clerk called PD, they came in weapons drawn. Put our guy on the ground knee on the back, muzzle pointed to his head. He obliged and tried to de-escalate, the local SWAT were not in the mood and very nervous.

He tried to explain to the young stud with an M4 who he was and his wallet is up in the room and he was cleaning an upper and not a rifle. Finally convinced them to search his room for his wallet.

They came back all flustered, they found out, buddy is a retired San Antonio PD and a retired National Guard CSM.

So, he asked for the supervisor on duty and proceeded to chew them out for not even trying to understand the situation on hand. All they heard, a black guy with an AR15.

In the Post #21 of this thread I was in a Conversative area with the People in Blue - GOOD. Once I produced my DD-214, the Sherrif offered to put me up in a different hotel for free.

I can remember when hunting in South Dakota the front office of the hotel had signage there and in the rooms asking everyone to clean their firearms outside in the side parking lot. They didn't want any cleaning solvent smells in the rooms from cleaning firearms.

Yes a DELAY to steal, but locks are for made for "honest people". You can lookup on the internet how the break into any lock or safe with ease or some tools. A GOOD idea when traveling through "Unfriendly 2nd" States you need to have firearms secure, and some States not even bring them or drive around the State. I had a Book on CCW for the US and it said bring a ball of String. When you get to certain State Lines that have a river, tie your CCW on the string, throw it over the side. DON"T bring it into the State (NJ). Then when you are returning you can reclaim your CCW.
Not only Firearms, but Magazines that hold over 5-10 cartridges. You can go to jail in some Cities for possession of high cap mags.

I have to say that is not the Men & Woman in BLUE that are against the 2nd. I hold most Law Enforcement in HIGH Regard (maybe not the FBI) It is the Liberal Heads of the PD Dept and Prosecuting Attorneys that are against Law Abiding Citizens.

These TRUCK VAULTS are great for keeping your firearms in a safe place while traveling. I would never leave firearms in them over night unless the truck was parked highly in a highly illuminated area against the front door of occupied Lobby of a hotel.
I was a consultant in Risk Reduction/Loss Prevention. You need to eliminate factors to assist scumbags from stealing your possessions or bodily harm.

There was a Post on LRH last year of a member having several firearms stolen out of his truck/trailer when at a hotel. I think that it was well over $10K+.
Just think of waiting for years to set up a lifetime hunting trip that my only come once. Spending time and $$$$ and dreams only to have you firearms stolen on the way to you hunt.
Be prepared and take precautions whether going to the range to shoot, keeping a CCW in your vehicle, going on a regular hunt, (hunters have had their firearms stolen out of their vehicle while getting breakfast or lunch at IHOP/local diner) or that lifetime HUNT!
