The Tale of the 6.5 PRC

Things I didn't know and help for all of the 6.5 PRC soles out there:
  • Bullets
    • Berger Elite Hunter 140 gr on back-order (I back-ordered through MidSouth Shooters)
    • Berger 156 gr. EOL are available but was looking for the 140 gr.
    • Hornady 143 gr ELD-X waitlist
  • Ammunition and Brass are a pain in the backside
    • Ammunition for the most part is sold-out unless your willing to pay the price gougers
    • ADG waitlist
    • Hornady sold out and really not a fan of their brass
    • gunwerks I'm not that rich
    • Nosler December 2020 maybe
      • Same for the reloading data
Solution: Order and wait for back-orders to be delivered because the hunt isn't until 2021 thank goodness.
Berbers shoot accurately but not sure about a hunting bullet.
Many animals are killed every year with the Berger but I am more inclined to use a Nosler Partition, or AB, a Barnes, or a Hornady GMX or Interbond.
The Theroy of the Berger leaves to many things to chances.
I have know a few that tried the Berger on Elk, some worked well but many turned ugly with a varmint bullet like performance.
In my 6.5CM it is a very accurate bullet just not really trusting it for hunting...yet.

Hate to use the P word, but the 140 Partition from Nosler is the hammer of Thor in the PRC.
Never apologies for stating the truth!
With all the new whiz bang bullets on the market today, it is the Nosler Partition by which they are ALL judged!
They are just not as sexy as some, but by George they work and work extremely well!

They really shine as a short action option and though they are not VLD they will take the fight to 600 yards.

If you're a Nosler fan, don't sleep on the Nosler 142 LRAB out of the PRC.
Witnessed 2 very dead elk killed with that bullet out of 6.5x284's last October.

Also a couple very dead mule deer with the 129 LRAB out of a 6.5 PRC...
I have to say the MOST accurate load in my 6.5CM has been the Winchester Expedition 142 LRAB factory load- .342" 5 shots.
Accurate and velocity was good.

I have an 11 year old daughter that no matter what I cannot talk her out of an Elk hunt. I was looking for a unicorn which is a light recoiling magnum. The original idea was a 270 or 300 WSM then through the magic of the internet I found one hell of a deal on a Bergara B-14 Wilderness Ridge in 6.5 PRC. https://tsswarehouse.com/shop/berga...o-syn-hinged-floorplate-2rd-bergara-b14sm519/

I have some 140 Accubonds that my 6.5 Creedmoor didn't like that I would part with. I also could probably part with a box of 143 ELDX if you need them soon.

You put a good brake on that and she won't have any issue shooting it. My nephew is hunting with my browning hells canyon speed in 300 prc and it's 8lbs scoped. He's extremely skinny. I think he's only 100 lbs. He will have no issue shooting it.

I just went thru the bullet battle. And finally found some 225 ELDms, because the 212 is non Existent. It's a struggle for all the calibers right now!

I topped this with a 3-15x56. Absolutely love the scope. Everyone tells me that I'm gonna lose the zero eventually but it's super clear and the low
Light is amazing!
"Everyone tells me that I'm gonna lose the zero eventually"

Are they saying this because it's a big cartridge with a brake? Just curious.

I had great luck with Berger 7mm 168 gr. on elk at 340 yards. Also deer, antelope, javelina, & Barbary sheep. The theory has worked for me so far, and it is the most accuate bullet I've ever shot.

Tell the truth, it is no sacrifice to get to buy a new rifle and sight it in for your daughter. You'll probably borrow her rifle when she isn't looking. Just wait until you have grandkids and get to do it again!

I think it's folks that don't like Leupold. I think they are probably right. I have had 2 leupolds lose zero with erector failure after only 30+ years of service. They were both Vari-x IIs. Leupold did fix them and send them back for free.

That will make a great rifle for her as long as she doesn't have to pack it too far. My 6.5 PRC is super accurate, I'm sure that Bergara will deliver at least Sub MOA.
