The .257 -WHICH CARTRIDGE???

You know that 25 wssm is pretty wicked with a 7 twist barrel and 117gr Cayugas 😉
Jill had one in Winchester Model 70. Shot several animals in USA and Affrica. Had an issue with the barrel and sent back. It was at the time Browning bought out Winchester. Browning would not replace with another Model 70 and wanted to give us an "A" Bolt. Said NO. then they only gave us the price we paid minus the TAX & Shipping. We took the money and bought a Kimber Montana 270WSM. Ended giving away all the 25WSSM ammo, Brass, Bullets for free.
Now really want to build a 25 Cal. since we have a lot of Berger 133gr. Bullets. First time we are building a rifle around a Bullet. Going backwards, but we will see how it turns out.

We lost a lot of our savings in IRA and 401K since Jan 2022 as all of us did and needed more $$$ to finish the new Shop. On top of that the SCS in my neck spine didn't work. well just setbacks. We have 10 Barrels and five different calibers to chamber. Now purchasing the bulk .257 bullets put us into another fix. Need to purchase all the components for the bullet. Never did that before.
Just found out that the Neuro Surgeon is going to operate on my C-2 to C-7 to do some grinding on my spinal bones and implanting metal electronics. LAST OPTION for me so i hope it works even a little, Will then finish the shop, Start Chambering/Threading Barrels. Options to Cerakote - Engraving and maybe Flute Barrels.
HIGH HOPES TO GET ME body brain MOVING AND BEING USFULL. (can't wait)

I already have competition bushing dies for 6.5X284 and a lot of Lapua brass so would only need a Custom Reamer and already have .257 Throater so can go longer than a SAMMI Reamer for 25X284. Probably go LA (worry about cartridge length in Mag).
....

I would definitely put it on at least a medium length. I had my 6-284 built on a 700 LA (because I already had it). Plenty of length for the +100 grain bullets & cycles exceptionally smooth with the 112s seated way out there.

I completely understand your thought process. I too have 6.5x284 bushing dies. It would be a whole lot more efficient $$ wise to just buy bushings instead of another set of dies... & brass.

Does anyone here know the capacity difference between PRC & x284?

I'm very happy with my 25 creedmoor. Also had a 25-06 and 25-284 fast twist, no longer shooting them. The creedmoor does everything I need it to; holds enough velocity for expansion way out there. And it does it with less recoil and muzzle blast. Easy to load/tune and find components.
What were your thoughts on the 25-284?
i built 2 25 CMs. A heavy comp & a light hunter, but havent broken in barrels yet.
Thanks

What are your loads; powder? I'm breaking in 2 25 CMs

Are you shooting bullets up to 133 gr in the 25 Creed? I remember seeing the 25-08 (25 creed copied it) but only shooting around 100 gr. If shooting 133s what velocity are you getting?
Len, I built 2 25 CMs. My barrels have not reached breaking in yet. I have lots of H4350 & just starting my velocities are not where I expected. I'm shooting 135s & 133s. Peterson brass in one & have Alpha in route for the other. I'll give you an update after barrels are broke in. A 22 GT I built is so much fun it's taking most of my time. Tell Ms Jill hello!

Ernie, what you can do with a stubby like that has always made me do a double take, awesome as always.

3168fps with an 18" BBL? I would have never guessed that, wow!

I wasn't expecting these speeds, and will be backing it down.
This is a Hart barrel.
I have another 18" on a rear grip Kauger single-shot action (Kauger's Black Widow stock), plus a 15 inch 25-284 (switch barrel/switch bolt head), that I have not even shot yet. Michael Deloach/Nine Run Gun build.
In the next year, all three should be squared away.
