The .257 -WHICH CARTRIDGE???

Surprised that nobody has come up with a 25/300PRC, It'd be like a 22-250 on steroids!!! Might be too overbore???
I was thinking about one myself. I made a dummy to see what it would look like with the 145gr blackhole.

And here it is next to my Blackbird.

6-284 is a XP-100 action (single shot)
25-284 also a XP and a single shot 700 SA clone (Kauger Arms).
No problems.
What velocities are you getting the 25-284?My gun plumber's old 25-284 reamer 1970 or 80', has a long throat ,135 bergers barely touch rifling before falling out of the case mouth.I think the blackjack reamers adress this issue. I'm thinking about the 25-06 easy route. 25-284 vs 25-06 in an XP 16"-18" ,will the shorter ,fatter case have any advantage in the shorter barrels?Looking foward to result's on Aaron's 25 saum,ya'd think that muzzle brake be cooked by now.LOL

I am just getting ready to load for it. 15" barrel.
I have a 18" center-grip XP in 25 PRC (1-8 twist I think) that I have done some initial load development on with the 131's

There is no difference in performance between the 284 case and the 06 case. I personally think the 284 case offers better accuracy having shot both. Seems to happen with shorter fatter cases. Don't see many 280s in competition vs 284s. They all need a long action or at least a medium action if using repeaters with DBM fed platforms.

Started this post the end of October 2022 and there are many post before us on the 1/4 Bore.
Lots of good information and ideas for the .257.
Still leaning towards the 25 Souper or 25X284 (if we keep it) because we have plenty of Lapua Brass that we can neck down and have the dies where just put a different neck bushing in. Along with plenty of Berger 133 & 135 gr bullets and Sierras. The only additional costs would be for a Reamer, Barrel Stock, trigger, Action. We have plenty of rifles so to build a 1/4 bore would be another one for the safe. Probably just build a nice hunting rifle and sell it with enough bullets to burn the barrel out.
