The .257 -WHICH CARTRIDGE???

I'll need to talk with Rich to get information on the Brass, Dies, Reamer specks.
Thanks much!

I am sure you do something similar since this isn't your first time to play this game but after the shortage of 2008 or 2011or whenever the heck it was I decided I would but enough brass to shoot out a barrel and soon as I find the powder/bullet combo I'll secure them as well. I got caught unprepared back then with a gun and no components. There are so many good cases that can really work well in the .25 caliber. As much as I think the 6.5 creedmoor was a boring cartridge I think it fits the 6mm and 25 well. It wasn't enough case to push high BC 6.5s

Neck size some 280 Ackley Sammi brass and run

I know that you are a 280 fan. and I like necking down to a .257
Nice to buy brass already to go and not having to fireform. How available is the brass? I just did a search and the sites I looked at were sold out.
Do you have any data to go along with the Berger 133 or 135s with powders and velocities?

Thanks much

Well, I bought 1200 pieces of Peterson brass when it became available. That was what sparked me to build these 2 rifles. I also am going to buy the 6.5-280 Ackley in the classifieds, it puts me in one rifle right away and allows me time to build a lightweight 6.5 throated for the 156gr Bergers.

There will be six 280 Ackley rifles in the safe once I get the last one finished. I also have 400rds of the Nosler 140gr Accubond factory loads.

****Edit****

That should say:

There will be six 280 Ackley based rifles in the safe once I get the last one finished. I also have 400rds of the Nosler 140gr Accubond factory loads.

Three 280 Ackley rifles, one 25-280 Ackley and two 6.5-280 Ackley rifles.

You are one of the SMART ONES in regards to building a rifle and having components to actually shoot it for years to come.
My hat is off to you sir!
Good job and may you have unlimited hunting days along with unlimited beautiful weather days to spend outside with your family.
God Bless You Sir!

Here's another one, 135gr Berger going 2940 from 25 creedmoor at 535 yards. He was feeding between open patches in timber at sunset and I wanted to anchor him so I put it through high shoulder and dumped him on the spot. I watched the impact easily through my scope (no muzzle break needed). Great terminal performance no exit, bang flop drama free. Love my 25 creed!

Nice Buck! Where were you hunting?

Then this screams to be a 257 Wby for me. That's the easy button and absolutely no wildcatting required.
Yep! My .257 WBY (https://www.longrangehunting.com/threads/my-budget-257-wbty-build.276854/page-7) has a 1:7" 22" barrel specifically built for suppressor and to propel the heavies, 131s, 133s, and 135s. However, when the 145s from Black Hole, I went straight to it. With my initial load, establishing a baseline with powders, I already have open. With 64.5g Magpro, I got 2954/2956 FPS with plenty of room for powder.

Not too shabby thus far.

Are you running the Saami freebore on that monster?

Anyone have any experience running a .25 in a shorter barrel, 20", and a short action?

Looking for velocity data and seeing if there are any mag length limitations. Will be shooting 120 class mono's.
