Testing the 142 LR Accubond

There is another post on the form with some of the guys weighing them and measuring the bearing surface. They are getting different measurements and weights for the 7mm ABLR bullets. I was hoping to find another bullet that shot as good as the bergers so I could have 2 rounds to hunt and practice with. I also been toying with the sierra match kings in the 142 grain as a good practice bullet but I probably just forget about using 2 different bullets and only use one and just shoot the same for practice as well. In the long run that will probably be the best. Maybe I burn up some of my 4831 and see how the 142 shoot. Its all fun but its got its high's and lows.

I have take the 6.5-06 I built last month to the range 3 times.
It is on a Dumoulin Mauser action, Bold Trigger, Boyd's pro varmint stock, custom Aluminum pillars, Shilen select match #3 taper ratchet rifling 8" twist, Sightron SIII 3x10 scope, harris bipod;
142 gr Nos LR accubond 54 gr H4350 2977 fps

8-22
3.5" OAL
1.1" 5 shots 50 yards
1.2" 3 shots 100 yards
2.8" 5 shots 100 yards

8-26
3.5" OAL
2.4" 3 shots 100 yards
3.8" 8 shots 100 yards

9-3
3.34" OAL
2.4" 5 shot group at 100 yards
2.1" 5 shot group at 100 yards

I don't know what's wrong with me, but it is all horizontal spread. The vertical is mostly 1/2", some 1"

After reading this I went and took 10 ABLR 129 and 10 Berger 130 off the top of
the box and this is what I found of my 6.5 bullets

3 @ 129.0, 2 @ 129.1, 4 @ 129.2, 1 @ 129.3, 2 @ 130.0, 5 @ 130.1, 1 @ 130.2, 1 @ 130.3, 1 @ 130.4

I have not bought any of the 142 ABLR yet

Dont bother. Just buy some bergers.

That kind of sounds like trigger pull issues or a loose scope mount. Or just having a bad day of shooting like all of us have!

That does sound weird. At least your getting horizontal spread and not up and down. Probably if I took the time and measured out each bullet and weighed each bullet and then sorted by weight and length on the ABLR's then I could probably get them to shoot better. But when I buy bergers and it seem also the Sierra match kings in the 142's I can just pull bullets straight out of the box without sorting or weighing and they will group and shoot fine. Usually .5 to .6 MOA at 200 yrds out of my savage 116.....Now here something you don't really expect to happen. I lost my reloading notebook with my information in it. So now I am somewhat starting over with the bergers. I have some of the knowledge locked away in my head but I don't remember exact powder charges. Back to the drawing board kind of.

It has always been the same way with the bergers for me in all the different calibers ive tried also. Pullum out of the box and reload them and shoot half inch groups quite consistently. Thanks BERGER!

I went back to the range for the 9th time and averaged 0.9" 5 shot groups at 100y with 120 gr NBT and IMR-4166.

I am giving up on the Nos 142 gr AB LR for the 2015 season.

Generally, vertical is powder, horizontal is seating.

If you read my tests, I had to be .010" off the lands to make the 142's shoot.

Thanks Alf, I will take reloading gear and the 142s with me. I am about to drive 900 miles to hunt.
I target practice for weeks before the season opens.

Ive killed lots of pdogs with them at close and far lol. They splatter very well. I know that aint what you mean but they work very well for that.
