Temp Stability?

To add to the confusion, it depends on what cartridge you are shooting when it comes to temp stability. Varget is extremely temp stable in the 308. Yet it may not do so well in other calibers as mentioned above.

The change that affects me most is going from winter to summer. Most of my game shooting is in the summer and although I work up loads in cooler temps this is always on my mind. Even some of the reportedly temp stable powders get wonky above 90 degrees. Some good cold weather loads can get problematic in hot weather.

If you go to the manufacturer of Hodgdon powder, which is Thales/ADI in Australia,

Hodgdon only sources some of their powder they resell, from Thales. Most comes from General Dynamics, both the Quebec facility and the Florida facility. However they also use Rhinemetal, and Groupe SNPE powders with some regularity.

ADI is the shell company name, to allow Thales to operate the government arsenal. Given the razing of the original, and now operation of the new arsenal Different process, different ingredients, and different equipment means they aren't building the same powder anymore.

Anyone wanna place bets on how long it takes Hodgdon to invent their next lie and market that?
It took roughly 10 years, before they started showing up to the surplus auctions and buying 842 away from us. And the B.S story they invented about it...

For anyone just getting into shooting, go read Hatcher's Notebook. You'll be able to read all about the amazing 1900 French military technology of adding Tin and Bismuth compounds into powder, which has amazing cleaning properties. Then go lookup the SDS of this amazing "New" CFE lineup. While you're at it, read the SDS of great many American made powders going clear back to the 1930's.

Hodgdon buys surplus powder, from the same auctions everyone here is able to buy at. The difference is they've been using civil war pressure testing equipment up until about 5 years ago, which is less than what everyone here is capable of using themselves.

I only referenced the Extreme line of powders for that very reason.
Hodgdon are the best liars in the business, they will look you in the eye and tell you they MAKE all these powders they sell. They DO NOT!
