SUPERFORMANCE POWDER is SUPER in 260 REM.

250 so far. It seems to be good but I am no expert. I wound up backing off 1 grain and it is right at 2970 and holding still, base on drop. Anyway, I had a bug hole group at 100 going and then yanked one for a .40 group. At 900 the MOA solution was dead on. I am going to head out Sunday if the weather holds and play with some fine tuning. I have not fine tuned this rifle yet. Just found a decent load and went with it during cat and wolf season. Speaking of, I shot a nice cat.

Congradulations on the group and the Cat. Man i sure would like another 6.5x284 but every time i think about it i remember the barrel longivity and forget it real quick. They sure do shoot good though. I am happy with the .260. It shoots as well i could ask of it. These Bartlein Barrels are really good. Mine broke in very quick. Only 7 rounds! No copper at all. That was a first for me. Wish they all did that, especially the 6.5x284. Well i am off to bed now, after midnight here. Keep me posted on the Super Powder and your results. Hope you had a nice Easter. Later my friend. ..... SEMPER FI!

7 rounds is sweet for sure. Mine took about 20. I cleaned the carbon out a couple days ago with 25 rounds through it to see how the copper looked. Very little in the grooves at the muzzle. I am going to test the theory in this rifle about cleaning out the carbon only and see how it does. I will probably order a new barrel soon and have it ready to go once this one is shot out. However, I am thinking about another 6.5 but in something with more speed. 3300-3500.

My buddy has a LRP coming, should have been here last week, in the 260. 26" barrel. He originally ordered a 111 but the dealer screwed up. He then decided to go with a LRP. Looking forward to getting it set up and shooting well and will give the super in it a try too.

Hi Brent, by all means give Super a try. If he shoots the 120-129 gr Hdy bullets he should get the same good grouping i did along with some impressive speed. I stopped at 47.0 gr. in mine as this was most accurate in mine. His speed may be a little slower than mine as my BBL. is 30". the groups should be close to what i am getting. Man if you are going for 3300-3500 you are really going to be at the top of the class. What cartridge are you looking at? What bullet? Barrel life cannot be a high point at those velocities. You are a glutton for punishment aren't you? Just kidding man. I always say,"whatever blows your britches leg up"! Shoot and enjoy. I only wish i could afford those barrel burners as they are a hoot to shoot. In the mean time i'll just shoot the .260 for as long as it allows. ..... SEMPER FI!

something like a 6.5 WSM, 28". There are several builds on here I am watching. These are hunting rifles though, so they won't see the high round or string counts a lot of others see. Might even go 280AI or something since the 7mm 168 vld is around .617 G1. There are so many options these days it is sickening. LOL

The intention is to have a rifle capable of killing a wolf at a really long distance on a good day. We can hunt from 9000 down 4000 ft from September thru March. Biggest issue is wind. I have been good out 1500 on elevation and hold control. Just a lot of variation in wind in the mountains. Realistically I can see a barrel burner running a couple of years for me.

For example I burned up a 100 rounds just messing around, breaking in, and working up a load with different powders etc. My next 100 was spent shoot LR (for me) 600-1050 to get settled in and build some understanding and experience. About rounds went down range from 1333 to 1482 yards. The next 40 or so was figuring why my scope was off 6" to the right and I had some verticle flyers. Reduced powder load (new lot) and the rifle settled in. So let's say I go out this weekend and can not really improve much from the .5moa consistency of this rifle. I will likely not be looking for much more and understand this is where the rifle and I will be. I will a few rounds over the summer to keep working on wind skills but no a huge amount, lets say 200. That puts the barrel around 500. next year will be around 200. I don't see myself shooting a 100 rounds per weekend. I have bow shoots, camping, dirt bike riding and racing, etc all coming up : ).

Hi Brent, yes on the .280. I have a .280 Rem. in the old Mountain Rifle config. It also shoots well but has not been used since i quit hunting. I think the AI version would suit your needs. You can get 200 fps or more vel. than the std. .280. And it should be easier on the BBL. than a WSM cartridge. Whatever you choose i wish you nothing but the best. GOOD LUCK. ..... SEMPER FI!

Thanks, i'll give them a call tomorrow as it is too late for today. ..... SEMPER FI!
Just ordered 8 lb. of Super Powder and 500 123 gr. A-Max bullets but there is a 30 day wait for it to be shipped. Powder Valley is snowed under apparently. Oh well, at least you can still get things even if you have to wait. ..... SEMPER FI!

Seeing this thread has sold me on rebarreling to a 260. I've always been alittle skeptical about the entire superformance line up after i had terrible results in my 308 with supereformance match ammo. 2-3 inch groups and only a 50 fps increase over my handloads. which were grouping .4 moa. But this is very promising information.

You could do worse than a .260 in my opinion. I too have a .308 that shoots 1/4" 5 shot at 100 yds but i have not tried Super Powder in it. You don't fix what isn't broke. I tried the 6.5x284 but was really disappointed in the barrel life(780 rounds). The .308 family seem to shoot longer than the "Hot Rods." When you get your .260 i will give you everything i have on it if you PM me. I rebarreled to the .260 after the 6.5x284 went south on me. I have to admit that it did shoot really well. If they would last as long as the .308 does i would have another one as i really loved it. Now, the Super Powder you buy is not what Hornady loads as it's Match ammo. I believe the powder i used in my.260 is an exceptional powder so much so that i ordered an 8 lb. jug of it today. Hope to get same results with this new batch as i know it will be from a different lot. One other thing i did not mention is pressure signs. There were none with my final load. I feel as though i could go higher but the accuracy was scary and the velocity was very good. I plan on moving up in bullet weight as soon as i can get them. You know how it is right now. Well good luck with your .260 in the future. SEMPER FI!

Ill keep you in mind devil. It'll be after Deer season that I start that project. The 308's got one more good season in her. gun)Semper Fi

I am tinkering right now with load info and will start with 33 gr in the 204 and probably 45 in the 6.5. I will be reloading in the field and going up to find the pressure then backing down and shoot for drop and accuracy. Hope the weather is good so I can make it happen. My 204 shoots .15 groups at 100 and .75 at 300 consistently with factory Hornady vmax 40's. Crazy lil rifle. I hope to find a nice load for it. Bonus is finding a nice load for the 6.5 too.

What powder are you refering to in the 6.5? If it is Super Powder you will be way low for the 120 gr. bullet. What bullet are you thinking of? Never fired the .204 number but have heard some good things about it. Already have enough rifles for now. Can't think about buying another. Happy shooting man. Talk to you later. ..... SEMPER FI!
