Suggestions for a good elk hunting boot

fit me like a glove

some asolo have tight tow box

lowa has generous toe box

my experience is that when you put it on a nice expensive boot…..it better feel perfect right away
or keep looking

I did a 7 day 142 mile walking trip in the UK a few years ago
my feet swelled up so bad at the end I could barely put my boots back on…..give yourself some wiggle room

I love my Kenetrek Mountain Extreme 400s for hunting high country in deep snow, and my Kenetrek Hardscrabble Hikers with less snow. I wear Kuiu Yukon gaiters in the snow. The Kenetreks oil up real well. I wouldn't call them "light." We will be going to Montana elk hunting the week before Thanksgiving. We are expecting (preparing for) snow so Im looking for a good warm, water proof but lite pair of boots that would be good for putting miles on each day. I have warm gore tex boots I use here in PA but I dont do much of any walking with them and know they are way too heavy for mountain hiking in the snow.

Id appreciate any suggestions.

All I wear anymore is Salomon. I wear them all year but my lighter insulation I run into December depending on snow and temps. I have the salomon Tondra for late season and winter and they are bad@*** boots. Super warm and crazy light. They are my go to winter wolf hunting boot.

I wear Schnee's. Mine are the Beartooth II but there are more heavily insulated models for people who require more warmth. The boots are light and have adequate support without getting into a ski-boot-stiff climbing boot. They work well even for heavy pack-out loads. As others have said, your feet will determine what's best for you. Some of the highly popular brands just don't work well for me. Good luck!

Be sure and check out Lathrop & Sons, mountain hunters. I live in Montana and personally wouldn't get insulated boots. A well constructed boot should be plenty warm if you are going to be moving

Thank you. I have 10.5 Kenetrek Mountain Extreme 400, the heels tend to lift. I sent them back for adjustment, still lifting.

I may try these Kuiu see how they work.

When shooting high power matches or hunting in SoTex and CenTex winters I wear the Salomon Quad GTX, they fit me perfectly. My feet never got wet in the even trudging through low level puddle, nor cold wearing Smartwool trekking heavy socks. This November would be my first trip on an Elk hunt in CO, thus I am looking for a more insulated pair of boots.

You don't need all that new tech with grams of this & that and water proofing to keep your socks dry. Buckskin Moccasins all the way and you don't need socks to worry about getting wet because not needed. Your feet will actually feel every piece of ground and never snap a twig. It will be like walking on marshmallows. You will be like a GHOST - invisible walking through the woods. Another thing if you practice with the real Buckskin Moccasins you will never get blisters on your feet because they will callus up. Be Stealthy and hunt like a PRO!...
I personally like the Mid Ankle height myself, but you can get them thigh or knee height. 1820AD
