Stock F-Class Build

Thx kyron, just started researching long and short distance optics for my build.

Lots of interesting info now that I realize what too look for on the Web,,, and lots of on hands at the out-fitter stores as well.

I can see that the 5X will be about the lowest I'll be most likely to go too since I need too make sure I still get my high end powers up to the 30X area.

I'll make my own hose clamp buck-horn iron sight adapter that mounts onto the optics as it allows me the quick and fast up close encounters... Having this option in the bush is a must for me.

I will use a old set of iron sights from my Savage marks-man II since they will allow me some room for adjustments.

These iron sights will allow me too quickly draw for 25 too 75 ish yards in the thick dark forests here on the Eastern Slopes of Alberta along the Rocky Mountain Ranges.

It's a must too have this option as things happen pretty fast with strang encounters of the furry kind.

Swing too sight is very helpful in situations like this.

If I get it right with the on top of scope sights, it "might" allow me too reach out past this 75 ish mark.

It will take some doing, but it has too happen as 1 rifle, 1 scope, and 1 cartrage thing for the all has too come into play.

I'm not buying into the more than one rifle thing for this or that.
If it was done by my 2 uncle's and my pops, then it's time I do this for my self.

It will work out as I know what I want and how too get there.
Might take some small frugal funds too do it,,, but it will happen.

Yes. There will be pictures too as sharing ideas has always been a part of good times.

PS: My Remmy LR is close to rigged up. So today it gets dropped off for a visit at the custom gun Works shop for the tech stuff.

There is at least 10 things that need addressing from the get go, and maybe a few things beyond that.

My other rifle now be comes the test unit as they are both chambered in 30/06.

My 2close friends will be my scout range finders as it save time, and it allows for us too share on info as its needed.

Back-up planning is going too be part of this as I can have anyone who wants too tag along doo so.

Young or not young does not matter as its all about sharing in this passion.

Don from Western Canada

I was lucky too spend the day with my new friend as he showed me stuff that will improve the consistency of the rifle for its tasks at hand.

Yes that the Remmy LR with Bell & Carlson Stock with aluminum bedding is good,,, but making sure that the action too Stock contact points allows the system too remain in the "Zero Stress" at all times is pretty important... And a fraction of bedding in the odd areas too make sure this happens.

The optics thing is sorted out.

Robert got me back on track too common thinking as It allows me too keep this build in the "practical & wize" selection of "proven" reliability.

The optics I'm picking is the Sightron 6-24x50 with thin cross hairs in second focal plain which allows the wires too remain thin wire at all power ranges...

Robert mentioned that the "rule of thumb is" 1 power for every 100 yards/ meters.
4x400,,, 8x800,,, or 10x1000 yards,,, and having access too the zoom powers above that is a plus.

Many Nation Matches in F-Class have been won on 12 and 14 power at 900 meters,,, thats not saying that they haven't been won with 44 too 60 power either... But being practical as a start up too F Class.

I let my self over think this threw as I was on the next stage before even getting on the door. LOL.

We all have different ways too gather information,,, here is one of my limited sources.

Not only is Robert a National match guy,,, he completes at top level too

Now that the proven optic thing is sorted, my next add on is

One of these really adds consistency over the shoots.

Robert wants me too burn this factory Barrel out,,, then at the 2500 mark I'll put on the 32" 7 lb Jury barrel.

Like I mentioned,,, practical, reliable, multi task for everything is a must.

Off too work as I dream of getting my skills up too par

Don

Ground pads are sorted as they await the carpet covers.
Rectangular pad is for my F-Class rifle build as it will support the Henry Remple rifle rest.

The triangle pad is for my Sporter rifle with Harrison BR bypod as it will allow me too fine tune the balance of the scope bubble too keep it the same at 4 too 900 meters.

Good for un-even grounds what ever staging area I set up at.
6" of self supporting adjustments in most areas.

The unit should be mostly dialed in pretty soon as solid rests allow me to do load developments for this set-up.

Don from Western Canada

And the shell of the rifle control center is done as well.

The control center allows for all year load development, atv for running the distance, and the pop top allows for camping any where I travel.

F-Class shooting is part of my world, archery and fishing is another along with travel sight seeing and being on top of many mountains along the Rocky Mountains.

Being able to run all year every where is a must as it allows me too expand on our Americas.

Having things to do in the wilds has always been part of my life.
F-Class will only add too this as us firearms folks are the best.

R Galloway fighting for his spot for the Canada National team.

Go Canada Go. Ha.

The TR free hand folks were at it too.
Young Fred with 60 years under his belt.

All 3 of these guys have competed for 60 + years all around the world at TR and Full Bore.
180+ years between the 3 of them.

They might struggle getting up and down off the ground, but when it comes time too perform, these guys have hands as smooth as glass.

No tech in their hand bags as they look down range, mental calculations, then put it on paper down range.

Watching the flags has trained them well.

Don

My F Class iron pads are cut and waiting too get the carpet glued on.

The rectangular pad is for my Henry Remple rest that will be fitted too my Standard Open F rifle that will be ready too rock some time next week.

I'll run it with factory stock and barrel this summer, but I've added the jewel trigger, none stress being, Remple F Class rest, and Sightron 6-24x50 mill dot optics.

The triangle iron is for my Harrison BR bypods.

It gets the fast track adjustment leveling system at different staging terrain areas from 400 too 900 meters / 1000 yards.

We have pretty ruff terrain up here too set up on, so this triangle iron pad will keep the rifle level,,, faster too do with the adjuster wing bolts as it allows up too 6" of leveling if needed.

Plus the BR bypod allows for another 5 1/2" on top of that.

They are mounted on my other rifle, but I have a feeling that a stock 308 will replace this rifle so I can do the stock F Class with it.

Stock F is just that up here in Canada.

The rifle has too be bone stock less a scope and bypod.
No lapping bolt or trigger change.
There might even be a weight restriction too. "l need too check the rules.

Lots of load development last week, and more too follow as I work up some loads for Hornady 178gr ELD-X, and something in the 200 + + gr.

Central control load development center on location too. Ha.

I start at 6am as the flags are up at 9am sharp.
We get a full 12 hours of fun sighting in on paper and take on the iron gongs at all distances.

The above group is 500 yards with gusting winds of 0 too 20+ mpr in all directions.

Close flags are blowing down range too next flag too right, 3Rd flag is left followed by head winds at the 400 yard mark. The 500 is cross wind Right Right of away from.

I found out that the canvas flags need 18 too 22 mpr too puff up,,, the nylon flags pop up at 7 too 10 mpr.

Drifting tall grass happens at 3 too 5 mpr unless its drifting ocean grasses that happens at around 5 ish mpr. "depending on the growth of it.

Reading the winds is tuff, got a chance too shoot last Tuesday is a 70 mpr cross wind storm. It was just like being on the back side of a 747 at idle waiting too take off. LOL.

Ended up with more dirt in my eyes then the weight of bullets I launched down range. LOL.

Those gust of winds dam near flattened out these trees.
Our city of Red Deer Alberta hasn't seen winds like this ever, dam near blow it right off the map.

Remind me of the high mountain pass Pikes Peek at Colorado Springs up top of the mountain.
Nothing like learning how too deal with what mother nature throws at us.
Purhaps something good of this will lead too good times in different areas of living life full.

The search for the wholly Kow, ok, the Kow and Donkey as I'm part of the mix.

My game plan going forward is too build up my re-loading skills as my old school ways aren't working out that gooder.

Yes too the days before hand as the ammo I loaded back then seemed to work ok for my forgiving 6mm/243 and my not too long ago 300 Weatherby Mag as most of my critter harvests were up close and personal,,, I've never needed distance in my harvests as I've excepted letting game come to me rather than me going after it. If I was lucky then so be it,,, if not,,, well thats ok too.

A few things I enjoy more than Harvesting game is just being out there. The word hunting (Harvesting) is just that.

Sight seeing where the game is from Sun up too sun down.

And taking in what life offers. Big bon fires and Smokey dog cooks.

This F Class stuff is just a small part of something too do in our long winter months.
These mountains are empty of humans up here, and my Onda with tracks takes me too places the sled folks don't go.

Having areas like this will allow me too practic up my skills at something fun and enjoyable.
Millions of miles of endless.

Like I mentioned before, its all about being on top of mountains looking down at life bellow.
I've been a part of sun sets for as long as I can remember, I hope too till the day I'm gone.

Any Who, this Jeathrow Bowdean dude is taking up some shooting stuff here in Western Canada, and hopefully in the Pacific Northwest of my familys turf.

My set goals for this year is too improve my re-loading skills and learn how the winds and elevations change things at distance.
Well that and trying too make better bon fires
LOL.

I don't take this for garnet since the many of us know of our brothers and sisters that are working over seas. Our family has been supports of the many who severed for our country, Canada and the USA. This is part of the reason this thread is possible.

My freedom is on account of those that are not at home doing their thing with family and friends, sharing in land scapes brings all of us back too what we have, and what the many of us want to do when our time comes.

With out the stuff I do, or others, then we're missing out on what's out there. It's our job too take advantage of what we can when we can.

Lifes too short too not allow our selves too have some of what ever it is that we're looking for,,, and if we plan it right, we will all get our time too explore some lands and hopefully find our selves on a path of lost-ness.

That's all for tonight from the guy up here in the North.
Kinda like the middle grounds between Alaska and Montana.

My world travels have helped me find peaces of the Smokey Mountains, the state of Virginia, Utah East and Colorado West.
Parts of Florida too California, and along the Eastern sea board of the USA as well as Canada's Newfoundland all here in Alberta.

I can see why I call this home as the mist fills the valleys bellow as if it locks things in down bellow.
I'm blessed too be here on this mountain grand too take it in.
There is no other place on earth I'd rather be since my kin folk came here long long ago.
They too called this home as they carved a living out of nothing.

I only hope that I don't take forgranet of what I was given nor what I have as life has offered me and many others a chance too at least try too find something good with in.

Hopefully by sharing an idea and something real "might" make someone some where put on a smile.

Isn't this what good Web forums are all about.

That last few weeks of tinkering with my Sporter class rifle has told me alot about my self.
What kind of re-loading skills do I need address.

What skills do I need too find with in my self too get things up too par.

Seems like my old skills need improving too keep pace with what really works.

My new friend who's bringing me on board too this F world of things has got me thinking about different ways too chase these paper targets.

I never really give it much thought since my game plan back then is still alot like today as I just sight in and hold high for distance if needed.

This works good for every day plinking, but once those distances reach out past 600 M and beyond,,, then the Hail Marry thing leaves lots of spacings between the groups. LOL.

This is where these folks come into play.

Yes that is seems that anyone can just show up and think they got it sorted.
Find and dandy at 400 M, but the 6 too 700 M is where this consistency starts too show up.

Getting 10 too 15 shots as close too the V ring is hard to do considering that its only 5 1/2" in diameter.

5 1/2" at 600 M as its still 5 1/2" at the 900M / or 1000 yard mark.

Kinda gets me thinking of how these folks get the needle in the hay stack down there with in 10" too 12" grouping with constancy in 10 to 25 kpr changing winds with water line mirages dancing across the optic lenes... At 15 ish shoots on top of that.

The Gremlins with in are at battle with in as the factors of earth display un-known changes ever second threw out the day.

Yes there are a select few that can put it on the line, but once in a while it gets handed back too them with nothing to show on paper down range.

Kind like a storm brewing off in the distance that we don't get too feel till it's on us.

My example is called the bland-out look as it scures our thoughts with in our mind.
AL Henderson talks a bit about this from his days of being the Olympic coach for the 1977 USA archery team.

Any Who. Compitition long distance shooting is like no other as it puts pressure on us (self) like no other.
The only dragon one chases is our own since we can't be that "other guy" getting his personal best down range.

Lots of these folks are in line for the Provincials, then off to the Western Canada Nationals a few weeks after that.
Ones mind is a major part of this,,, and setting up is another.

The ammo, rifle are factors too, but in all reality the (ALL) has too work out together too even find a spot at the line.

Consistency and many good score cards will get a person there.

Not for me this year as I have a long road ahead. Lots of learning about my self and how I'll address what I need too do too get up too speed.

Don

So my Remington LR 700 is now in my hands.

Remmy LH in 30/06, Jewel trigger at 8oz, Sightron scope 6-24x50, zero stress action bedding, Henry Rempel F Class bypod.

I sighted it in at 300m, then jumped onto the 26"x21" iron silhouette at 600M followed by a 50 too 50 hit average on the 16" disk over 200 shots.

I'll be doing the same thing this weekend as I set up for the 900M stuff in Southern BC in a few weeks,,, followed by the 1000 too 1700m Cliff bank shooting.

Its a private gathering of folks down there as I've been personally asked to attend from my good friend out that way.

I added a smaller twin brother too my Remmy LR,,, its a Remmy SPS Heavy barrel in 308,,, it shots pin holes out of the box at 600m. Factory trigger on top of that.

Leopold 6.5x20-50 optics with Harrison BR bypods.

Pretty happy with both rifles as the SPS will see a the same work over as the Remmy LR unit.

Ive had the Leopold Scope for many years, so it cost nothing to bolt it on.

About $800 per rifle, $300 per trigger, HR rest was $400 ish, Sightron scope $1320,,, the Leopold is valued at $500 in todays world.

This is $Cnd funds which is about a 1/3 more then the $Usd dollars, so I'm doing ok on funding as a F Class Savage would of set me back $2300 Cnd funds for the one rifle.

The benefit I see in going the long road is that I get a chance to shoot both barrels off these rifles, then add 34" Bob Jury barrels later on. LOL.

Remington actions are good too work off here in Canada. Lots of builders have the tools to do this stuff up here.

Just rapped up 4 days doing high elevation tests along the Eastern Slopes of the Rocky Mountain Range, what a fun way too enjoy the great outdoors.

The work over on the Rimgton Long Range sure smoothed things over,,, at least it eliminates any issues if they were there since I travel some long distances where there is no repair shops close by. "Not that I'd need one since most bolt action rifles are pretty rugg-ed on their proven platform.

Those Jewel triggers sure need some getting use too, but the last day out there things were coming together.

The last 2 days I dialed in on the 16" metal gong at 600 meters, and now it's time too move into the 7 and 800 range..

I've been lucky with this Remmy LR in 30/06,,, I brought along a twin brother too this rifle in 308.
Remmy SPS Heavy barrel Varmint,,, it is still in factory mode, but it will see the same work over as the LR.

I'm use too these old stiff factory triggers, as this rifle was the first out of the gate too get onto the irons down range,,, but on day 3 & 4 the Remmy LR passed it with consecutive hits,,, "or at least with a higher % rate.

My good friend up here has 2 coures I'm taking on here,,, long range shooting format, and ammo re-loader course #2,,, both of these ideas will move me too the next level.

I have too agree with his take on getting good at this stuff,,, just get out there too practice and retain those skills, this effort on ones part will just click on once the whole thing comes together.
It won't happen overnight,,, but it will happen if a person puts in the time & efforts.

Long week ahead as I prep for another run at this reflecting on the notes of this long weekend shooting.

Good times ahead as I push my own limits in the pursuit of giving this F Class stuff a good run for its enjoyment.

If this keeps up, I see a new barrel getting put on one of these rifles this winter as this outdoor stuff is on going even when the temps drop into the Candian -20 to -30c,,, LOL.

There is no off season for this guy as there always something too do on lands that are soon too be frozen.

Hopefully not for a few more months that is. Ha

Don

This weekend I step up the distance between rifle and target.

I'll get things going at 400m's as I range back too the 900 mark.

If the grouping holds consistant, then I'll keep adding distance.

Home made 8'x8' back board is ready too go, valley is picked out, and 2 rifles with 400 rounds.

It's been a long road up to this point, but its given me time too sort things out for the long range package.

Getting those firearms planted, and my self into the relax mode helps, chasing the winds and mirages is a full time job. This will be where I play the game of distance going forward.

Rifle & optics,,, check.
Solid rest & firm back bag,,, check.
Ground plate and shooting mat,,, check.
Ammo, tall and box test done,,, check.
Drop and calibration cards in hand,,, check.
Mind & body on task,,, check.

Hopefully all the little extras as well,,, check.

Bring on the V Ring.
