Steam affecting spotting hit/missess in low light

The problem with the 6arc compared to other 6mm's is factory ammo and load data is limited to saami max pressure of 52k due to it's use in gas guns. In a bolt action you can push it harder but you're limited by case capacity for powder. If I wanted a fast 6 that I could spot shots with I would go 6 creedmoor.

You're the one who brought up his 6ARC being inadequate past 400yds for deer, which is just flat out false. I found it funny how such an old school mentality on cartridges and KE could live in the same brain as wanting to use thermals.

I mentioned a 6 ARC was pushing it at that distance, just as a .243 would be pushing it at 600 yards. My evidence? He says he made a good shot on the deer, but it got away. IF he hit the deer in the vitals with a good shot yet it was able to go for a considerable distance, then res ipsa loquitur.

Because something works, once, that doesn't mean it was a good idea.

This is why I don't like copper. At low velocity they dont do much damage. I think the op may have to use them. All the more reason to push them harder. Your kind of limited with the case capacity of the arc.

I see people saying the 6 ARC is better than a .243 for long range shooting because of the twist rate... but if you're getting a custom barrel nothing stops you from getting a fast twist rate. My .243 match rifle has a 1:7" twist and loves the 107gr Sierra Match Kings.

If I'm running a bolt gun I'd go with the .243 or the GT in a short action, with a fast twist barrel. The ARC has a nonstandard head size and was designed for the cartridge size limitations of the AR platform. I want more ballistic performance, to enable more terminal performance. Why not the Creed? Better selection of factory ammo. But, as a guy who owns four .243s and loves the 6mms, if I was going for a once in a lifetime hunt with good odds of a long range shot I'd pick something bigger and faster because until you get silly with caliber there are only advantages.

Yeah Hornady has bolt data which is considerably more realistic. I recently saw the video where the Vortex guy was doing load testing. He had his loads running faster than mine with a quicker powder. They pretty much matched my 22" 243 with similar bullets.
This lil case is amazing for its efficiency.
That said I have been looking at Rebarreling a rifle to 20" 6CM with 7" twist for a solid deer rifle.

I got this rifle as a high round count practice rifle thats versatile enough to get meat out to a fair bit, no illusions of it being faster than it is. At just under 300 bullet performance was great on a big bodied blacktail on opening weekend.
