McGuire Ballistics .224 Heavy/High BC bullet development...

Gday mcquirebalistics
Please don't take this the wrong way as I'm just trying to find out what your parameters are so we can have a better understanding of the process your using or should say how much tolerance you have
& im not trying to cause issues I'm trying to fine tune the outcome

So here goes
On the minimum expansion threshold I saw a video of yours sometime ago ( well I think so 🤞 ) on your method of seeing where a pill works down to a certain level for which is a definite improvement over straight water/milk jugs as resistance is lower than the pushback the milk jugs create & if I'm correct your using little bags of water in a 44gal drum & some other media that catches the pill shot @ distance 🤞& not sold on gel either on very low resistances so I'm not going to town on yours

So when you do those tests if it is the case & say the pill opens to your standards
Do you have any meat left in the sandwich

Eg if you get a pill that opens to 1775 do you Go 1750 it's rated to or 1800 or do you use the 1775 & to be completely upfront I've found on most resistances your rating of minimum velocity in the 6.5 was pretty darn good only very minimum resistance I found it was off a touch but way better than any other mushroom mono

I do like how you have different rated velocities for different pills that's a huge plus Imo & overall fairly impressed with your pills

If this is the wrong thread please let me know & I'll delete it
Cheers

I am starting testing tomorrow. I will list everything step by step as I go.
Load Development
BC testing
Impact testing
I am an outfitter so they should be put to use in some wild pigs in the next few days. I will try and keep everything organized as I go and explain. Feel free to ask any questions on info that I leave out.

First day of testing.
I am not sure what the free bore is on the chamber but it was set perfectly. 2.785 to lands. I jump everything .020 off unless there is a magazine length restriction. Started with N550. I forgot to take pictures of load card but ran a ladder to 3400. Primer cratered out of accuracy and low case fill. Need to re check when barrel is broken in. Went to N550 for better case fill. Ran up to 45GR 3390. 43.5GR 3310 shot well enough to start BC testing. I have no experience with this cartridge so I am learning as I go.

Ran zeiss app table to start BC testing. I like to start with a a existing bullet curve which was a 89GR Berger. The results are as follows.
50ft above sea level
100 YARD ZERO
400 1MOA high
600 .75MOA high
700 ON
800 ON
All were 3 shot groups. The wind started to pick up. 4-7MPH quartering tail wind.

Looking forward to the results

I have the same style notebook 😉

Final part was to impact/function test. I was going to go to 800 but the wind was picking up and these bullets don't mark well so I opted for 700 where we have a reactive target. This range would put impact right at 2000fps. We always test at long ranges to make sure bullet expands properly and experiences different preasures put on it by falling in.One of the reasons we do this is if our BC is off we still have the distance the the bullet properly functions. We use a 7×7 box with a bag of water as our primary. This is the size of a small big game animals thoracic cavity and we want full deployment into first box and catch in second. This is not a perfect medium to use but we have never had a bullet fail on an animal that passed this test and gives us confidence to start hunting with it. The pictures are in order. Full deployment into first box and caught in second. I ran two rounds to make sure but first hit depleted water and second bullet was caught in backstop. Second bullet still opened but not as dramatic as first. Hit was a little off center. At this point we feel confident to start hunting with and see how it does.

Hopefully, this makes sense on how we start our testing. All numbers and results that we gathered are non final. I will start sending them out for my guys to start testing and gathering data. Still allot of work to do, but it's a good initial start.
