Was talkin guns with a co-worker the other day and a nosey individual was eaves dropping and made the comment that I must be "mistaken" that a 257 would'nt shoot 100 grainer that fast. I very politely asked him how much money he'd like to wager. He declined. It's absolutely amazing ain't it ?
should be a SCREAMER.Me too, I have some 121 HH's for my 257 Blackbird. It's basically a weatherby with no belt and a 30*shoulder.
22" barrel w/ 1:14 twist.Ooh, that make me want a .358 again. How long is your barrel?
Last three shots were less than 1/4" apart. Nice little clover leaf and that that was three different charge weights 51.0, 51.5, and 52.0 gr. Hoping when I shoot 5 loaded the same its stupid accurate. 200 gr at nearly 2800 fps is gonna make a helluva impression on any Louisiana deer it meets.22" barrel w/ 1:14 twist.
That oughtta do it fo sho.I'm hoping to make an impression on a bear this fall with the 254HH in my Whelen AI.
I'm TRYING to arrange my schedule to get to go set up the new chrono tomorrow to test the 124gr HHs loaded into a Sauer 101 .300 Win Mag, but loaded down to hot .308/moderate. 30-06 range using powders like Benchmark, Varget, H4895, and IMR 4166... Trying to escape recoil after a couple of surgeries, but found this rifle in the chambering for half price, so couldn't pass... These are low charge densities, so I'll be interested in seeing accuracy and velocity. It will be hard to compare velocity except I have also loaded some 130gr Barmes TTSX similarly. Obviously still not apples to apples, but maybe apples to pears vs apples to watermelons...That oughtta do it fo sho.
Careful you don't load too low. Seen pressure spikes unreal from too low of a charge.I'm TRYING to arrange my schedule to get to go set up the new chrono tomorrow to test the 124gr HHs loaded into a Sauer 101 .300 Win Mag, but loaded down to hot .308/moderate. 30-06 range using powders like Benchmark, Varget, H4895, and IMR 4166... I was a little worried about the Benchmark, but believe I'm in a decent zone. I swore off making these types of loads for the Creedmoor-ish cartridges. Had a close call with N530, I think it was, or RL 10x - or maybe it was 3031. I was using all those at the time. I generally go the other way and pack the case full of one of the slowest powders I have (which is what I wound up doing for the Creedmoor and similar), but with a Win Mag, I didn't think I could get good results or enough recoil reduction that way. May be a 2nd choice next range session.Careful you don't load too low. Seen pressure spikes unreal from too low of a charge.
