My 26 years in the Army we only shot Lake City ammunition. Lake city made our 40mm 50BMG, 300 WM, 7.62x51, 5.56, 45Acp and 9mm ball. Winchester made our 9mm Hollow point ammo under a special contract order. Army regs forbid us from using any other ammunition.

I did a week long training event years ago where 10th group invited all of the regional police swat snipers and we all trained and shot together for a week. The variability in police snipers from one ti the next was staggering. One unit would be shooting an accuracy international rifle in 408 cheytac, and the next one would have a Remington 700 from walmart with a $50 bushnell scope. Their training was the same. Some were former military snipers and their departments sent them to legit civilian sniper schools, and others got 200rds a year to play with at the 100y range out back of their office.

law suit coming if you do your own army buys you need case lots all the same

I thought I saw a documentary on Marine snipers and their ammo was loaded specifically for them by hand by marines at a US Marine facility. Machine work on the rifles was done at the same facility.

Local LE agency's are forbidden to use reloads, and must use or replace stock after an allotted time period. Friend of mine son in law was Captain of swat team. He brought him cases of Federal 9mm and 45, 40 cal, 308. LE only ammo that was to be destroyed. I still have case of Federal.45 rounds. He could only shoot so much, and didn't have a .45 ACP. No use wasting tax payer money.

Ammo is supplied for active duty. It is resupplied in the field. All rifles are cut and chambered to a spec and ammo is provided to fit that spec purposely. Each branch has a armor services unit that customizes their weapons. Only unit I know of that gets creative is delta or special duty contractors

That's my understanding too. Especially depending on the mission. Special friends get special favors.

I see SWAT from Md. and special operators at my range on occasion. They are a friendly bunch of men. The Swat folks can shoot a whole case of .308 Federal Gold medal match 168's in a day among themselves. Rarely the SOPs but they seem to shoot the .223 Federal GMMatch. I have 300-win mag brass, it's stamped Federal with the year of production on the base. I'd say no they don't reload although the Military teams do if allowed.

I've only seen factory loaded ammo used in MIL and LEO. A current active duty friend gets either Federal or Sig pistol ammo and Federal or LC rifle ammo.

If there were ever a mishap or bad shoot, the attorneys would eat their lunch if using handloads on people, ie: "defendent loaded ammo that would increase suffering", "defendent enjoyed killing people so much he loaded specific ammo", etc. Just like in law enforcement or (especially) concealed carry for self defense, never, ever use your handloads. A judge and jury will not look favorable on it.
