DON'T do, ANY "Modifications", IF, shipping Gun to Factory for, Warranty Repair !
THEY, "Frown" on Mod's and "Usually" won't touch, a Gun, if,.. modified !
Or, they will put it back to, Factory "Spec's" and Charge you, for the "Work"

Your rifle probably has the smooth barrel nut, I used a pipe wrench to get it loose and chunked it in the trash.

I still recommend an aftermarket replacement nut, there are plenty of more attractive options out there if you plan on replacing the barrel yourself.

I bought, the Crown Ridge barrel Nut and used, a Large Crescent wrench to set Headspace, on my 24" 6 XC, Criterion Barrel,. and, IT,.."BugHoles"
I used, 2 NEW, Norma 6 XC Cases ( set Bolt, to just Close, on them ) and "Set" H-S ,.. TIGHT on, the GO Gage and, it came out, "Perfect" with, NO Brass growth or, "Clickers"

I have one more thing I may check on this rifle. Sitting around waiting for some money matters to get settled before I order a custom barrel and thinking on "it is probably the barrel, but could it be the action?" Then I remembered a buddy said he had the go and no go guage to check headspace when I need them. So It won't cost me a dime to check the no go gauge to see if it is head spaced to long.

That might cause accuracy issues if she has to much free play. Also seemed like the brass sized
a little hard yesterday which added to my train of thought on headspacing.

It doesnt hurt to check but I doubt it would cause the issues you are seeing. One tell tale sign is to measure your brass growth from new to fireformed with a headspace comparator. I have one custom barrel(encore) that has a long chamber. Brass growth on fireforming is .014. Brass bumped .002 shoots just fine and is very accurate.

UPDATE to this thread.
I shipped my sons 110 6.5 PRC back in to Savage. A big huge THANKS for them fixing this rifle.
Last night we cleaned it a little. Fired a couple of fouler rounds and then started testing a little at 136 yards.
Three rounds with RL 26 random mid range load .91 MOA.
Three rounds with H1000 random mid range load .63 MOA.
Three rounds with Retumbo random mid range load .51 MOA.
All fired by my 13 year old. He was smiling ear to ear.
He had the same thoughts I did. Did it really like the Retumbo load more or did each group get a little tighter as we fouled a new barrel?
Anyway. Thanks again to Savage!!! They sure treated us right!!! Looks like we may have a real shooter with some testing. Nine shots, 3 powders, all sub MOA zero load work up.
Deer better stay nocturnal come November. LOL

New barrel. Happens sometimes. My first bad barrel experience.
My brother in law bought a brand new Rem Sendero in 300 RUM. It was a 12" gun at 100 yards. They rebarreled it and she shoots sweet now.

We have been bowhunting a lot, but youth rifle is coming up this weekend. Finally got to shoot some more groups to load test again. Here are the 2nd three shot groups.(@124 yards this time)
Three rounds with RL 26 (56 gr) .60 MOA.
Three rounds with H1000 (58 gr) .41 MOA.
Three rounds with Retumbo(58 gr) .57 MOA.
Averaging the 2 3 shot groups gave
RL 26 (56 gr) .77 MOA.
H1000 (58 gr) .53 MOA.
Retumbo(58 gr) .54 MOA.
So we loaded him up a handful of H1000 for season and he took it on out to 200 to verify zero and then to 400yard to check expected drop.
3 shot group at 200 gave a .37 MOA group.
3 shot group at 400 gave a .69 MOA group.
10 - 17 mph cross/head wind. Both groups were horizontal with very little vertical to them. Not bad for a 13 year old.

I think this is my first rifle that hasn't shot MOA yet.
Let me rephrase that, this is the first time I have been ecstatic to have a rifle that hasn't shot an MOA sized group yet.
(Excuse me, my son's rifle.)

I tried to not put to much faith in 3 3 shot groups. But now I am starting to feel very comfortable in its ability.
What really builds faith is not one single flyer to open a group out past MOA. 24 total shots and not a single "was that Wyatt, or the gun, or the brass, or the charge, or the bullet"?
