SIG Kilo 2400 with Applied Ballistics!!

Now when I go afield, 1 profile is loaded in my kilo. Maybe 2 if my wife is with me. I sync the profile of the gun in my hand, too easy. I can re-sync a different profile to the kilo in under 20 seconds. In fact, I can manually load 5-7 profiles in the APP, sync 4 of them to the Kilo....all in less time than it takes to load 1 profile in the G7.
Ben

How we use the software can make or break a lot of these tools, I think a lot of guys are wanting to treat the rangfinder as a one piece solution when none of them are, all these tools with loaded software have a profile loader of some kind, Kestrels, G7 or Sig all have a support tool and if guys learn to leverage that tool better I think it really lets the tool run at its most effective.
I really, really like the idea of quick profile loading, I do this with the Kestrel, I just load what I want to run that day and rally, I don't use the tool as data storage I use the app.

Andy,
I ordered one on the pre order here. But after reading this I have a concern.

********Select Profile - 1-4 (not named so you have to remember which is which?)*********

Is this correct? I understand that I may not be able to change the inputs with in the SIG 2400 but it doesn't show in the unit which rifle or caliber that your using, you just have to know that the rifle your shooting is profile (1 ) and your hunting partners rifle is profile (3 ) and my varmint rifle is profile (4)? I can't name my profile on the phone and have it down load to the SIG 2400?

Thanks for all your reviews.

Also in the app, it does tell you which profile is loaded when you are using it on the HUD. So a quick check of the app if you are lost.

You can choose to use the rangefinder with no ballistics with Line Of Sight range or Angle Modified Range. Here are the settings you can change on the rangefinder with no need for the phone:

  • Target Mode - Best (standard) or Last
  • Display Brightness - Auto or choose from 9 fixed brightness settings
  • Reticle - Circle, Circle with horizontal milling crosshair, Circle with hor. and vert.
  • Unit of Measure - Yards or Meters
  • Bluetooth on or off - If you don't want to use ballistics turn off to conserve battery life

Once your ballistic profiles are loaded onto the KILO 2400 (up to 4 profiles) here are the settings that you can change right on the rangefinder without needing the phone:

  • Select Profile - 1-4 (not named so you have to remember which is which?)
  • Wind Direction - 9:00 for example (you can also change this in the app and then sync)
  • Wind Speed Unit of Measure - MPH or Meters per Second
  • Wind Velocity - 10 MPH for example (you can also change this in the app and then sync)
  • Holdover Unit of Measure - MOA or MIL

Everything else is adjusted in the app on your phone. The only setting that seemed like it would be better on the rangefinder than only in the app to me was the "Sleep Time". You can choose to have the rangefinder's display time-out from 15-180 seconds. If you're going to work with the app and sync to the rangefinder then it helps to have the timeout set to the full 180 seconds because when the rangefinder times out your bluetooth connection is lost until you fire the rangefinder again and then it automatically reconnects.

Other than preferring the Sleep Time setting on the rangefinder rather than in the app I was happy with the controls on the rangefinder vs. the app.

When you are uploading your profiles, the app gives you a label next to each name (Pro 1, Pro 2, Pro 3) that's the profiles in the device.

This was actually something that was addressed with the Sig Kilo 2400. You get that nice Stylus pen included, which means you can keep your gloves on.

If you open it from the middle its a ball point pen.

Here is where we stand right now,

1) If you want a performance comparisons read Modern Advancements Vol 2

2) The new 2200MR does not have Bluetooth. 5% improvement over the 2000.

3) The 2400 is a 25% improvement over the SK2000, and 20% over the SK2200MR

4) If you need specifics I have updated this page: http://appliedballisticsllc.com/products/devices/sig-sauer-kilo-2400-abs/

5) If you want info on the app: http://appliedballisticsllc.com/products/apps/sig-kilo-2400abs-lrf-app/

6) No, you don't need the app for anything other than loading profiles

7) It does work in Mils and MOA

8) Yes, you can see all the sensor readings if you wish.

9) Ship Date is sometime around or after SHOT Show

10) If you want to pre-order you can. From us, or from Len, and I am sure from others in the coming weeks.

11) Street Price is 1500$

12) The details of what you get in this kit you can see on the product page, you get a lot for the price. Its complete so you shouldn't need to source the other parts.

13) If you need to see how it compares in performance, it beat out range finders costing more than 2000$, you can see this in Modern Advancements Vol 2 page 192.

14) This is a HARDWARE upgrade form the Sig 2000, and Sig 2200MR. The 2400 is not the same on the inside, and does have some performance upgrades, including the glass used.

15) Yes it will automatically adjust for inclination (If you set to AMR Angle Modified Ranging). Or you can pick LOS (Line of Sight).

16) If you set it to (NO PRO) or no profile, you can have it report in Density Altitude where it would normally report our Elevation/Windage.

17) You can manually set wind speed, and direction. Or set wind to 0 in the device. However its easier to do in the app. The choice is yours, further emphasizing the app is not needed once profiles are loaded.

18) Beam divergence is wicked small, giving you some fantastic ranging abilities.

19) Reticle is an adjustable milling reticle. You can turn off and adjust the milling portion if you want. It also has a smaller targeting reticle than the other Sig Kilos to assist with long range ranging.

20) Elevation. No it does not read or report elevation. It reads and reports station pressure and density altitude. Elevation is only needed for barometric pressure readings, which this device does not do, and is really not ideal for shooting solutions.

21) MV Change with Temp Change, Spin Drift, Horizontal Coriolis, Vertical Coriolis, Aerodynamic Jump. You can also run G1, G7, and Custom Drag Models.

22) Unlike other range finders, there is no ballistic range limitation. If you can range it, you can get a firing solution.

23) You can do a ballistic calibration on it if you wish. It is further refined so that you can do a Muzzle Velocity Calibration or a Drop Scale Factor (Adjusts the Mach vs CD information)

24) Please take the time to read the specs on the device to see what it features.

Just trying to knock out some common questions, and if you have any please ask here.

I would like to discuss not having a profile name displayed in the kilo VS profile 1-4.

You can name your profiles in the APP. When you choose 4 profiles to sync to your Kilo, a number is assigned to each profile you clearly see. If for some reason you cannot remember what profile 3 is, simply look at your APP and it will show you. I just did this and it took 4-5 seconds.

I currently have 28 profiles in my APP and have used these for 9 months now. I cannot think of one time that I was frustrated with not having the profile show up as a name on the Kilo display.

I'm not sure some of you are understanding the ease of which you can change profiles and sync them to the Kilo. It takes seconds, seriously.

I owned 2 of the G7 rangefinders over the last 4+ years. I absolutely enjoyed using them and they served me well. But you cannot compare the 2 in technology or ease of use. I have recently used the analogy that the G7 is a 57 Chevy and the Kilo a 2017 Corvette. don't know how else to say it...

When I used the G7, 3-4 profiles were always loaded and I rarely changed them.

At the end of the day, I'm sure I would like to see the profile name listed on the Kilo display and that would be another cool feature. But it 100% has NOT been an issue or even a thought over the last 9 months of 2400 use.

Ben
While this might be the case from home base, I am looking at it from a hunting standpoint. If I am up on the mountain, maybe I don't have my phone, or no phone reception( maybe not needed to sync to Sig 2400 and change profile) and I have my main caliber loaded on the LRF.
Say my hunting rifle goes down, and have to use my backup rifle, it would be nice to be able to change profile of the Sig as a stand alone unit, and know for sure what profile that I am dealing with, instead of guessing what is 1or 2,3,or 4 on the unit.
Again, as I stated before, this would not be a deal breaker for me, and I am on the preorder list.
It would just be another nice feature to think about having on the unit.

Trueblue

I did find this in one of the links posted.

Requirements
Android v5.0 or higher or iOS 7.0+
Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) support on the Mobile Device.
Region and Carrier Limitations: This app is not approved for all regions and/or carriers at this time. Some carriers may choose to block this app due to the nature of its content.
Sig Kilo 2400 ABS
Not Required:

You do not need GPS, Internet, or Cell Service to run calculations.

That is easy enough. No phone reception is needed. The app syncs to the rangefinder using a Bluetooth connection.

If you don't have a phone with you for whatever reason, your primary gun could be profile # 1 with your backup as # 2. If your primary goes down, you can scroll through the rangefinder settings to choose profile # 2. The phone is not needed.

AMEN!

As I recall in my pre-coffee haze this morning I think my G7 just shows P1 - P2 etc during the selection process and only the actual profile name if you go into edit mode. Right?

~Robert
The G7 does show the profile as P-1, but also lists the actual caliber on the profile in edit mode.
Thats all I am asking about is if the Sig shows the actual caliber somewhere on it as a stand alone unit, or only on the phone app?
It would be a nice feature to show it somewhere on the stand alone unit, so you can scroll between 1-4 and know what calibers you have loaded on the unit.

Doc Beech,
What is the lowest usable temperature limit where the LED readout is visible and the unit will still process at an acceptable speed?
0*F?...-20*F...?
Thanks

I may have missed the answer to this. If you have 4 profiles in the 2400 unit and decide to add another profile from app, what is the procedure?

Do you delete the one of your choice in the RF first, does the RF delete one automatically, which one, or does it delete all four? I hope it lets you move your choice, but would that be done thru the app?

If you already have 4 profiles on the 2400 and you want to remove one and add a new one you go into the app and highlight the 4 that you want on the 2400 and hit Sync. In this case you would be highlighting 3 profiles that were already on the 2400 plus you would highlight the new one.

If you only had 3 profiles loaded on the 2400 and you wanted to add one more you would have to highlight all 4 of them in the app and then sync.
