You can choose to use the rangefinder with no ballistics with Line Of Sight range or Angle Modified Range. Here are the settings you can change on the rangefinder with no need for the phone:

  • Target Mode - Best (standard) or Last
  • Display Brightness - Auto or choose from 9 fixed brightness settings
  • Reticle - Circle, Circle with horizontal milling crosshair, Circle with hor. and vert.
  • Unit of Measure - Yards or Meters
  • Bluetooth on or off - If you don't want to use ballistics turn off to conserve battery life

Once your ballistic profiles are loaded onto the KILO 2400 (up to 4 profiles) here are the settings that you can change right on the rangefinder without needing the phone:

  • Select Profile - 1-4 (not named so you have to remember which is which?)
  • Wind Direction - 9:00 for example (you can also change this in the app and then sync)
  • Wind Speed Unit of Measure - MPH or Meters per Second
  • Wind Velocity - 10 MPH for example (you can also change this in the app and then sync)
  • Holdover Unit of Measure - MOA or MIL

Everything else is adjusted in the app on your phone. The only setting that seemed like it would be better on the rangefinder than only in the app to me was the "Sleep Time". You can choose to have the rangefinder's display time-out from 15-180 seconds. If you're going to work with the app and sync to the rangefinder then it helps to have the timeout set to the full 180 seconds because when the rangefinder times out your bluetooth connection is lost until you fire the rangefinder again and then it automatically reconnects.

Other than preferring the Sleep Time setting on the rangefinder rather than in the app I was happy with the controls on the rangefinder vs. the app.

Andy,
It would be nice to be able to have the cartridge name on the rangefinder instead of just 1,2,3,4
If you added or changed calibers very often to the rangefinder, I could see it getting very easy to forget what caliber is listed under 1,2,3, or 4 profiles
Almost seems like you would need a separate cheat sheet for this.
Not a deal breaker for me thou.
I am on the preorder list.

Andy,
I ordered one on the pre order here. But after reading this I have a concern.

********Select Profile - 1-4 (not named so you have to remember which is which?)*********

Is this correct? I understand that I may not be able to change the inputs with in the SIG 2400 but it doesn't show in the unit which rifle or caliber that your using, you just have to know that the rifle your shooting is profile (1 ) and your hunting partners rifle is profile (3 ) and my varmint rifle is profile (4)? I can't name my profile on the phone and have it down load to the SIG 2400?

Thanks for all your reviews.

I agree. I have an email into one of the engineers to make sure I'm correct on that and to ask if there's any chance they can improve it.

The G7 BR2 also lists the profiles similarly although you can drill down into the edit menu and find the name. My dad always had a little cheat sticker on the outside of his G7 BR2 confirming which profile was which.

Could you expand on what the Target Mode is.....best, last?

When using the unit, can the wind calculator be ignored, or turned off?

I need to learn more about the target modes but my understanding is that Best is your standard setting and Last is meant to ignore brush in front of your target.

I believe the wind value will always display so you'd just ignore it. I wonder what happens if you enter a wind value of zero...

I already dropped off the KILO and its instruction manual with my dad so I'll have to get back to you on that one.

Regarding "truing" the ballistics - here is what AB says:

Ballistic Calibration – Sometimes it's not possible to accurately determine all the variables required to calculate an exact ballistic solution. As a result, the Point Of Impact (POI) predicted by the program can be a little different from where the actual bullet hits in the real world. One of the more powerful features of the Sig Kilo 2400 Device is the Drop Scale Factor (DSF). A user can calibrate the program based on real world observed drop data at range by inputting pairs of observed range/drop data. This is also how you correct for scope turret errors. While it may seem simple, behind the scenes complex calculations are doing more than just adjusting muzzle velocity. The trajectory is being trued.

I would like to discuss not having a profile name displayed in the kilo VS profile 1-4.

You can name your profiles in the APP. When you choose 4 profiles to sync to your Kilo, a number is assigned to each profile you clearly see. If for some reason you cannot remember what profile 3 is, simply look at your APP and it will show you. I just did this and it took 4-5 seconds.

I currently have 28 profiles in my APP and have used these for 9 months now. I cannot think of one time that I was frustrated with not having the profile show up as a name on the Kilo display.

I'm not sure some of you are understanding the ease of which you can change profiles and sync them to the Kilo. It takes seconds, seriously.

I owned 2 of the G7 rangefinders over the last 4+ years. I absolutely enjoyed using them and they served me well. But you cannot compare the 2 in technology or ease of use. I have recently used the analogy that the G7 is a 57 Chevy and the Kilo a 2017 Corvette. don't know how else to say it...

When I used the G7, 3-4 profiles were always loaded and I rarely changed them. Now when I go afield, 1 profile is loaded in my kilo. Maybe 2 if my wife is with me. I sync the profile of the gun in my hand, too easy. I can re-sync a different profile to the kilo in under 20 seconds. In fact, I can manually load 5-7 profiles in the APP, sync 4 of them to the Kilo....all in less time than it takes to load 1 profile in the G7.

At the end of the day, I'm sure I would like to see the profile name listed on the Kilo display and that would be another cool feature. But it 100% has NOT been an issue or even a thought over the last 9 months of 2400 use.

AMEN!
Of all the notes and records we keep, checking and double checking, testing and then checking again; keeping a little cheat or PTouch label on your scope and rangefinder is a piece of cake. When I'm hunting which is what I primarily do, it's not like I'm swapping loads and guns around much less carrying more than one gun on my pack during an elk or mule deer hunt. If my partner is ranging for me with my G7 I always check the profile before I hand it off to him. If I'm ranging for him he gets yardage unless he gives me his ballistic rangefinder.

As I recall in my pre-coffee haze this morning I think my G7 just shows P1 - P2 etc during the selection process and only the actual profile name if you go into edit mode. Right?

It is also my hope since I've already pre-ordered, that Sig will issue firmware updates as time goes on if the unit will accept updates. Even if it doesn't I'm still excited to get my hands on this unit at SHOT show if mine has not shipped by then.

Ben,
Thank You that all makes since now, having everything in your phone. Question if I have everything loaded in the phone app and don't have any kind of service to the phone it still works with the SIG ? Right
