I tried the tripod too some years ago as it was much more comfortable than lying on the ground. Shooting prone off a bipod provided considerably more accuracy, but becomes very unpleasant after several hours of up/downs. What I like about the bench is it only weighs about 30#, it pulls easily, I shoot from an elevated position, it swivels 360degrees and is quite stable. It's also much more comfortable. I too don't drive on the property with my pickup. I have a backpack I carry ammo, gun cleaning supplies, water and something to eat. I usually shoot for 5 to 6 hours on a dog town, and finish up back at the truck. By the way, I shoot only rimfire guns now, which adds to the fun factor. Keep up the shooting, and if you get a chance, check out https://lettersfromlaser.blogspot.com/
