Sherman Wildcat Reloading Data is Here!!!

  • Just wanted to add a couple additional powders I've tried with my 6.5sst/25"b V560 - 55.4gr - 143-x - cci br2 -2.810" ADG - 2970fps V560 - 55.8gr - swift scricco 130gr - cci 200 - 2.80" - ADG - 3010 H1000 - 59.0gr - 143x - cci 200 - 2.810" ADG - 2940fps. Norma MRP - 56.0gr - 147eld-m - cci br2 - 2.812" - ADG - 3010fps. *all above listed are maximum loads, not responsible for any use of loads listed...work up to, do not start at...all guns are different-

Caught me at a weak moment I guess. Just pre ordered 200pcs of brass. I'll worry about the rest later...
Hey couesaddict I also ordered brass and also the 131 blackjack ace bullets and ordered a barrel blank from blackjack too.Rich set me up with a smith that will cut my chamber as soon as I get my barrel. Can't wait to get it all put together!

I've got a new can of the V565 I'm ready to try out. I've used the v560 & v570 both with good results as far as fill ratio for the sst cartridges and low sd & es , also, better velocity compared with a lot of the other powders. The v565 I'm hoping will be a perfect fit for the 6.5sst and what I'm wanting out of the cartridge with 147eld-m's. Unfortunately I've got to get a new barrel chambered, but it's at the Smith now with my newly purchased reamer. I did get 2,700 rounds out of the barrel +- 50 rnds( at beginning I had to make brass from 7saum brass and lost round count briefly) Bore scope showed severe fire cracking just in front of chamber until almost halfway down bbl. Accuracy started opening up but velocity was still good

I think 565 will work very well! I wish I could find some.
2700 rounds is pretty good I'd say!

Yes 2700 probably was pushing it but I held off until after deer season here.2,300 would have been about it for competition. It still was shooting good enough to shoot moa of deer. I used it to shoot a 170lb 9 point in Alabama this winter. The 143eld-x didn't drop him though, shot at just over 300yrds quartered towards me in shoulder/chest but bullet did not exit, did massive damage but he ran about 25 yrds, fell but even after waiting 30minutes to approach & get him he required another shot to put him out.

I'm going to be building myself a lightweight long range hunting gun with a carbon stock and 26" proof research barrel. I'm trying to decide what would be better to build... 7SS or 280 Sherman. What would you guys recommend? It will be on a Tikka action. Deciding factors would be the easier of the two to reload for (easiest to fireform brass) and one with most velocity. Also how long is the overall length of the 280 Sherman? I don't wanna handicap myself if I cant seat the bullets out far enough because of mag length... that may also change my decision.

Since you specified the Tikka, there is no question I would do the SS. The 280 needs almost 3.6" and the Tikka is 3.4".

Thanks a lot! Do you believe the 7SS is the ultimate long range hunting caliber or would you recommend something with different with better trajectory or knockdown power?
