Getting a scope as close as possible to the barrel is such a 1980s way of thinking. Get it to where your head is in a comfortable position with a proper cheekweld no matter where the scope is height wise. All modern software allows for scope height above the centerline of bore.
I understand that just didn't want to buy rings if not needed. Cheekweld is not perfect but close enough for this one.

In some rifles, the scope (rings ) height can impact ejection. Empties were hitting the windage knob on my scope with low rings. Had to switch them out to medium height rings. Just something to think about.
Didn't give that a thought. Gonna shoot it when the rain quits. I'll keep an eye out for that. Thanks!
