Savage 111 LRH 6.5-284 Loading Questions

Although I'm not shooting a savage 111 LRH, I am shooting a 6.5-284. Have you tried the 6.5 hybrids? They are not as sensitive to seating depth.

I didn't see a 6.5 hybrid hunting bullet listed. Because I did look. Is it new? For me it has to be a hunting bullet because all my guns are hunting guns first and target second. That's why my next choice was a Nosler BT. It they make a hybrid hunting Berger I will definitely try them.

You could make a holder and single feed. An empty Berger bullet container works well to carry some loaded ammo. I found a loaded ammo holder that packs 20 rounds and protects the bullet alignment. However, my rifles shot well at .100 and .125 off the lands so I didn't have much issue with concentricity. I am not sure what my new barrel is going to like yet but am hopeful I get good results with a good seating depth.

They are not currently making a 6.5 Hunting Hybrid. However, in my opinion, you can use them on game!

I just hate to risk the kill of a lifetime on whether or not a target bullet will do the job. Ill try some Nosler BT. In my past experience they have been easy to tune and do work on game. Not sure about this speed though.

I have been testing the 127 lrx i took them to africa and took 3 baboons and 3 rock hyrax with them they were devistating. was going to try them on gemsbok or springbok but my 300 wm was shooting so good i just used it.

i am using 4831sc and pushing them 3034 which is right at the limit.

I hear the amax is a great 6.5 bullet. Anyone used it on game? They list it as good for deer sized game. I'm trying hard to decide between the 140 amax and the 140 Nosler BT. The amax has better ballistics but if it doesn't do the job internally the it's no good. I've heard a lot on both sides of the fence there. I have a lot of experience with the Noslers and they have never let me down on an animal. Have any of you used either of these bullets on deer with your 6.5-284?

The Amax and 142 SMK's have both proven to be very accurate in my Savage. The Amax in my view is too frangible for game. Don't know about the SMK. The two high BC bullets that have performed superbly in my 6.5-284's at +500 yards have been the Berger Hunting VLD's and the 140/142 JLK's.

Started load work on the Noslers. I can already tell my velocity will be much much lower. I'm guessing 2850 - 2900. But with only few rounds of testing she's already down to 1" at 250 yards. I'll fine tune the charge and then play with seating depth some to see what they'll do.

It was very easy to get the Noslers down to under 1-1/2 at 250 yards but I'm really struggling to get them to 1". Which is my goal. If I calculate right 1.3" is 1/2 Moa so they are not shooting bad now. I'd just like a little better.

Don't know if this will help but the noslers i run seem to like more jump than other bullets.

don't know where you are seated but maybe a little more jump will help.

my 127 lrx barnes load is close to .100 jump but it is only .75 moa load

I know Noslers like to jump but my 243 likes them close. I started about .005"-.01" jump and then started pushing them back a little at a time. I don't know where they are at now. I'm guessing around .05" jump. Ill measure tonight and try some at .075 " jump. They so far have opened up while pushing back. So I thing I'll load some right at the lands also.

Well I tried loading some at the lands with no better success. I measured my loads and I was only arou .025" jump on the longest jump. Now I will say that with all loads tested at this length or longer COL have had two bullets side by side and one low. Even while testing powder charges this stayed constant.

Now I decided to jump back farther and loaded two groups at .050" jump and they switched. Now I have two cutting holes side by side and one high. So naturally I loaded some at .040" jump to try tomorrow.
