Remington 5R advice

Well after going to work for a couple weeks straight I got back home and got a couple days off. I went to the range with some loads I put together a couple of weeks ago. I had cleaned the bore with JB bore cleaner before I went so started off with a clean barrel. Things shot pretty bad the first couple groups like 1.5 to 2 min. Then I hit 77.4 gr of h1000 and all of a sudden my rifle shot.5 MOA. I tested 77.6 next and it shot .9 MOA. So I'm thinking 2 things happened today. 1 I found the accuracy node and 2 the barrel finally broke in with 80 rounds down the tube.
Great. I was just about to mention that in my experience most new barrels will not really settle in with less than 40-75 rounds down the tube.

Another range day today. I zeroed the rifle at 200 yards where it shot about 3/4 MOA. I then shot a 3 shot 3.5" group at 500yards and a 3 shot 6" group at 707yards. I had two at 707 land within a couple inches then third one caught a little wind gust which drifted it 5 inches right. So overall pretty well. Both groups were about 1 MOA high so I ran those numbers in the shooter app under the validation tab.

Great shooting, congrats.

I have one of those rifles and a stock pack from Triad Tactical will do the trick to fix the cheek weld issue and save you a bundle at the same time. As far as a scope goes, I'd put a Bushnell DMR2 on it, I have one on a different 308 and use it out to 1k all the time. It's mil based and FFP which I strongly recommend if you're going to be shooting different distances out to 1k.

One thing I did end up doing beyond the lug bed job and the timney trigger was cut the factory recoil pad off and install a limbsaver pad. That made the rifle a whole lot more pleasant to shoot.

I snuck out to range this morning and fired 6 shots. Wind was a little stronger at the target than at the gun. 500 yards, 600 yards and 810 yards. 4 mph wind at the Target 2 mph at the gun right to left. 2 inch 2 shot group at 500 and 2 shot 4 inch group at 810.

Need to work on my wind calls.
Which means more ammo is needed.

When you get the wind completely figured out, write a book, make a mint, and send me a signed copy lol
