Reloder 26

Has anyone noticed if 26 is a dirty powder? I have heard that some people got false pressure because of the carbon build up with RL33.

I have noticed that RL26 is dirty. I used RL26 in a Ruger Precision Rifle in .243win with Winchester brass and primers and any 105gr class bullet (Berger, Sierra, Hornady). It shot great, nice velocity and no pressure signs. 5 shots into a single large hole off the bench. But back at home the carbon was something else. Using BoreTech Eliminator it pushed out without issue, but none of my other guns/powders carbon foul like this thing did.

Also, on every shot it gave a puff of smoke out of the muzzle that you would think looked a black powder gun. I was practicing for a local high power match and after a string of rapid fire I had to wait for the smoke to clear. At a match this year I was shooting the service rifle but someone down the line was shooting a 6mm Competition Match with RL26 and it did the same thing.

Good Luck,
Ross

RL26 left the bore dirty, but I will agree with previous posters that it didn't affect the accuracy. Going 150 - 250 rounds between cleaning was not an issue. But the amount of black patches that would come out of that rifle was something else.

RL26 270Wby, 28" barrel, 170 Berber @3225fps

Did not seem to have too much smoke...

I'm still in the process of load development and haven't taken enough shots to confirm but with my 300 wm and 215 bergers in around 2950 with 77 grains RL26.

I have not hit pressure yet but I think 77 grains is getting up there.

Anyone else using the 215 in a 300 wm gone over 77 grains of RL26?

I was having good luck in my 300 win mag with 76 grains Reloader 26 fed 215,nosler brass with the 215 Berger at 3.725 coal I believe I'd have to check that but it was averaging around 2990 fps with magneto speed.

Has anyone tested the lot to lot consistency? I've noticed I've had to drop over a 1.5 grains to keep the pressure down and my velocity is down too. I may do a little testing since I've got a few different lots.

I've just been through all 19 pages of this thread trying to find a burn rate comparison between rl26 and other powders. Alliant rates this powder between rl25 and rl33, thats all well and good. I currently use retumbo in my .30-378 weatherby and was hoping to find a comparison between the two. I need that so that I can get a starting point to work up a load for this rifle. There is not much loading data available for this round. Aliant has stated that rl26 is well suited for the over bore magnums. Sometime next week I plan on working up a load for this round and will post my findings. Apreciate all and any comments. Thank you in advance; CTW

Reloader 26 is a touch faster than h1000. So a grain or two less is what I had to do when switching.
