145gr Lehigh Defense Controlled Chaos, MV was 3040 fps out of a 30-06. Impact was on a whitetail buck at 70 yards in the chest and dropped him instantly, found the bullet lying just past the diaphragm when gutting him.

130 berger hunting vld @ about 3000 fps from 6.5 creed. 10 point whitetail under 100 yards dont remember the exact range. Retainted weight 30 grains. Complete destruction in its path. That's the entry side of the rib cage

Hey All,
I though I'd start a thread where we can show images of recovered bullets. I hear a lot about failed bullets and why folks thought they failed. I figure here would be a collection of bullets that show the nature of their expansion and other characteristics, for bullets that mostly did not fail. An example of this is the stories of monos not expanding.... something I have never experienced yet on standard to magnum rounds.

Hornady 130gn GMX / Taken from a pronghorn shot with a 270win at about 225-250 yards with muzzle velocity about 3000fps, quartering away thru vitals. Almost all weight retained and 2x expansion:

Nosler Partition 150gn / Taken from my first elk shot from quartering, bedding cow, thru the chest with a 270win at about 150 yards. This bullet blew thru her heart and crossed the chest where the bullet was recovered on the far hide. As usual, the nose disintegrates and the rear is left intact, almost 2x expansion. Note the peelback is quite different from the mono:

Great post. It will be fun seeing what expansion everyone is getting from various bullets and game. Your top GMX bullet looks more like 4 times expansion. Equal distance from base on all 4 sides (base width plus adding 4 sides).

.308 215 Hyb, 3100MV, 432 yards, bull elk, recovered under off side hide, 88.4gr

.308 175 SMK, 3300mv, 160ish yds, bull elk, recovered under off side hide

6mm 105 Hyb, 3101mv, 445 yds, pronghorn, recovered under off side skin, 51.9gr

Maybe I'm reading this wrong but you're getting really super velocities with a 308 win? Or is it those velocities with .308 caliber bullets not nit picking just wondering

Very cool so far, especially the Woodleigh lion bullet! I've been waiting to see what match bullets, Bergers, SST and ELD-x look like, so it's great to see those and the others. Quite a difference in mushrooming seen and it seems as though the core separating is still killing although, I'd still try a partition, bonded or mono on tougher game.

I read 308 Win at first until I saw the velocity and then figured he was talking about some 30 caliber magnum. It would be nice if people would say what cartridge they are using rather than just the caliber, although the velocity and powder charge are big clues. LOL

.243 80 gr TTSX @3278. Whitetail doe. 168 yards quartering away neck shot. Only one I've recovered yet.

My experience is that the TTSX and Hornady GMX perform nearly identically with roughly 2x expansion that is reliable. I haven't seen any gamechangers among the other mono offerings but I'm sure they are good.

seems as though the core separating is still killing although,

The core on eldx seems to be only the nose half breaking. Very destructive. The rear where the interlock is... still has (creedmoor) enough power to drive the 70 percent core and sharp jacket to the other side. As long as there is enough velocity to open it, they work well.

The attached pic is .300 blkout @1050 fps. Lehigh 194 maximum expansion int milk jug. If I get a deer soon ill try to recover and post a pic... (Or if someone breaks in....)
