Question for you 7mm Rem Mag Elk Killers?

Thanks, I would have figured the Speer B was too soft for elk shoulders! I have heard of the Accubond even coming apart up close, but hey, all bullets are "Man Made". Meaning, "subject to failure" at some point. ha I used to load the Speer 165BT for friend's '06 for deer/hogs. I liked the 160 HC in the first 280 AI I had ( just a rechambered Mod 700 Mtn Rifle .280) I also used the older 150 NBT, never made a mess on Mule Deer/Exotics, Antelope. My friend bought the 280AI and killed a cow elk at 60yds (base of neck shot) with the 160HC (2800fps) pass through! In other 7 Mags, I have paired the Speer 160HC/160 Partition (worked up loads/tweaked for each. I shot the Speer for practice/rocks in desert and the NPTs for hunting. Hornady's will work too. I'm surprised no one has mentioned using the Nosler 160 Ballistic Tip in the Rem Mag? It's the beefed up Hunting version ( I think it was made for the 28 Nosler and such?) should be as effective as the AccuBond.

When I hunted with a 7 mm mag I used the160 gr AB's. Did a good job for me. Went to africa 2 times. I killed a kudu and a gemsbuck DRT with high shoulder shots. Impressed my PH. Should do a good job for you.

Rev the 150 NBT is a good as they come, the new 160 NBT should be incredible if one has the twist for it. I have 8 twists in both my 7 WSM and 7 Mashburn Super, sure the 160 would perk just fine in them.

If I can find them I'll give them a go and see how they perk

I would think the 160 NBT is the same length as the 160 AB, so any 9.5 and faster should be fine? I was just thinking that it "might" be as good on game as the NAB?

With all the talk about bullet performance here on LRH a while back I did some research on when bonded bullets came on the scene. Found out not until the late 60's with only a couple in limited production and not until Swift in 1984 with the release of the A-Frame (forward lead core is bonded) did bonding the jacket to the core become relevant to some extent. Nosler Accubonds came on the scene in 2008 and only slowly taken sales from the ballistic tip that was introduced in 1984. The BTs utilize a proprietary lead alloy core which is how most cup and core bullets are designed so the lead is internally bonded to a degree resulting in those beautiful mushrooms and effective kills.

So to sum it all up by all measures cup and core bullets have taken the vast majority of all big game in North America to date and it going to be many decades for bonded bullets to surpass them if they ever do. So I would say don't be concerned about utilizing a C&C bullet for big game they have proven themselves for decades.

As one member here but it:

"It sure seems to have gotten tougher to kill game since the onset of the internet and forums like this".

Understood, used/shot alot of them. Two things I picked up from shooting elk sized Game, I wanted penetration. I also wanted to save all the meat I could. I was raised by a Dad who grew up during the Great Depression, and we ate alot of small game. Later on, we belonged to a deer lease that also had feral hogs on it. I had to "finesse" them all with meat saving shots...not always possible, and the butt chewing commenced, ha. It "affected me". I later was a user of Barnes X and later upgrades to them, and I have to say, I still love Monos OR Bonded bullets. If I use a C&C I like either a heavy for caliber or one with a known tougher lead core. I discovered early on with the softer Ballistic Tips to use a lighter weight, i.e. a 165 instead of a 180 as it had "less" soft lead core up front and the mushroom met the thicker base very quickly. That's probably still why Dogz likes that 150 NBT, am I right Sir? ha So I just like to hear others on their experiences, I love it in fact!
