Ok I have a friend that wants a new rifle. He has decided on a .300 Winchester Mag. He has ask me who makes an excellent shooting rifle and has great customer service. He will use the rifle for occasional elk hunting. He does want the rifle to have a brake and his budget is approximately $1,500 - $2,000. That's why I am not a big help because Those are generally not in my budget. I really want to help him out and give him good advice so any help is much appreciated.

All of the top line rifles I have dabbled with all started around $1,500 more than that budget.
Seekins are nice, Win Model 70 EW, Rem 700 Tactical/Sendero or similar. Tikka are nice but a little less than that in price option.
I really like Kimber rifles too, but I'm not sure what price they start at anymore.

Cheers.

I took a look at them and have heard good things. I am not sure how he will like the vertical grip. I have a rifle with one I will need to have him try. Any other off the shelf or semi custom options? He wants it for next season.

I have a Seekins PH2 in 300prc. I absolutely love the rifle and do plan on buying more in the future. I also have one of the modern sporting rifles it's a wonderful shooter as well. Those two are my favorite rifles I own. I'd highly recommend.

I would also seriously look at a Sako Finnlight. I bought mine in 300 WSM and love it! It is made in Finland. Just picking it up it has the feel of quality. It's also a chunk lighter than a lot of rifles. I've used and abused mine on a bunch of Alaska and Western US hunt with never a problem. I would also highly recommend a 300 WSM rather than a 300 Winchester. My WSM barely kicks and has the same 30 cal bullets. I use it exclusively for antelope, deer, mtn goat, sheep, bear, etc.

Seekins for the upper end of his budget. For the price you get a great rifle and unmatched customer service. On the lower end I would say Remington Sendero but it's gonna be heavy. Stay away from the Browning Max Long Range as they are a wash for accuracy. Christensen has several rifles that would fall into his price range and don't have vertical grips i.e. the Mesa and Ridgeline. The Mesa Long Range is in there too, but again, heavy

Weatherby. Right at 2k and I've never seen a dud. I have quite a few of my own and load for a ton of them. When I open the case at elk/deer camp it's all that's in there and it's all you need. Simple ladder test with Hammers follow by seating test and he'll be happy. Expect 1/2 MOA or less.
