Proud of Daughter

Awesome, makes me look forward to taking my girls, in the future.
It will be more frustrating then i can explain, it will also be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life. Patients and being very calm is key in the beginning. There were many times i would bury my fact biting my tongue just praying the rifle would go off. Sometimes it did work out other times the deer ran off no harm done which again is still a great experience. Best advice i can give anyone taking youngsters out hunting, DO NOTHING that will add to the stress of the moment, little buggers are already stressed to the nines most of the time anyway. And then make it clear, its better to see a deer walk away healthy then loose a wounded animal. In their early years, especially with young ladies, loosing a wounded deer could end their career. Young men seem to be a bit more blood thirsty at that age. Not our girls though, on average. Enjoy your great times to come!!

My Grandson's first deer this year! Opening day public land in a 3pts. or better area!

We have not bad the best year when it comes to buck quality. Not sure why but it seems when we have a wet summer, our buck quality goes south. Does not make sense but that had held true around our parts for the last 35 years i have been chasing whitetails. We have a load of bucks, more then ever, just no high quality bucks. So this year we decided we needed to do some management type hunting and try to take some mature 4x4 or lesser bucks.

my daughter Kenzie had picked out a buck we had seen in late august and september. He was a nice wide, 4 year old 4x4. That was the one she wanted and when opening day came, she watched and passed on a dozen deer. I would see her buck from time to time on our property or the neighbors but always when she was at school and he would be gone by the time she got home. Would always send her pics which i am sure she enjoyed!! 😳

last week, he showed up, middle of the day and i got some good pics of him, again, she is at school.

just a nice solid mature deer.
this past weekend it really warmed up and the deer activity pretty much stopped. However, sunday evening, we had a good group of does come through to feed and a very respectable younger 6x5 and nice 4 year old 4x4 come through as well. Still she passed on them saying she wanted her buck.

told her this was the time of year if you pass on a buck, it could be the last one you see. Still she passed. Then with about 10 minutes of legal shooting time left, we caught movement of a few deer running out into our pasture. A couple does and what appeared to be her buck following closely behind. Was trying to make sure it was him and while he looked good i was not positive. Told her i was 75% sure that was her buck. She lined up her 243 and at just shy of 300 yards made an absolutely perfect heart shot. He ran 70 yards and piled up!!

now i was nervous hoping i had told her right!! When we got up to the buck, i was relieved to see that it was in fact him. Very proud of her patients and ability to pass lesser deer. Even though we had a poor quality year, she passed on a dozen GOOD bucks to hold out for the one she wanted. Very proud of my hunting buddy and her very beautiful Montana whitetail. Her little K-rifle strikes again!!

Great buck!
Your mystery of missing big bucks could be due to professional poachers. We had that problem here but solved it by busting a pro poaching ring and actually sent them and the taxidermist they worked for, to prison.

The one I interviewed rolled over on the others. He still received 5 1/2 years in prison, lesser than the rest of them received.

We put a lot of time in on that case. The group was poaching in several states.

We do have plenty of poaching going on but pretty sure its not professional. There is a county road that runs along our property and its common to have trucks stop on the county road, pull a rifle out and LOOK at the deer out in the fields 500-1000 yards off the road. And by the way, right by my home. Several times i have walked out my front door just so they know i am home and as soon as they see me the fly odd down the road. We have had a few instances where shots were actually fired. Since this county road has an exit on both ends, its very hard to catch these people. Hardly any traffic at all on this road until sunrise and sunset and then its hard to believe the number of trucks driving through……. Do my best to make my presence known and or at least make it look like i am home snd for the most part they stay away but i am sure many deer every year get poached…. Never understood the value in that to anyone but it does show a total lack of morals and ethics…

Yeah on that. Being one of enforcement of the law of many years, I can agree.

Some of us can agree, some disadvantaged and poor hungry folks without resources should be allowed to take game. This is just a personal opinion of someone that has seen a lot of extreme poverty and hunger.

My father-in-law talked about times he went to the store and had money to buy .22 ammo and matches. That was all. I'm pretty sure he poached more deer in his life than he shot legally. Back then there were lots of deer, and a lot less people, so it was no harm to anyone.

We turned in a poacher who was driving into the wilderness and shooting elk with an AR-15. He had killed 3 elk in one weekend. Pretty sure he was selling that meat. He knew he was busted, and got rid of his guns, so he only got busted for wilderness incursion. Not satisfying.

Awesome stuff. My first four were daughters. Nothing better than daughters that shoot lights out!
Reminded me of all the great hunts I had with them when they were younger.
Still got two boys 11 and 14 to spend a few more years with.
Cherish the time!!!!
