I am REALLY hoping a heavy for caliber .257" bullet race for sales will start.
Blackjack bullets has fired the 1st shot (no pun intended) with the 131 Blackjack, and Hammer has the 121 & 124 HH, we just need Berger, Sierra, Nosler, Hornady and Barnes, to step up to the challenge now.
Can you imagine a high BC 130 Berger Elite Hunter, 130 SMK/TGK, 130 NABLR, 130 ELD-X/M, or 120 LRX? How do you think sales would go? The resurgence of faster twist .25s are definitely on the rise, and these would really be welcomed with open arms.
Factory LR rifles chambered in fast twist 25 CM, 25 PRC, .257 Roberts, 25SST, 25 SAUM, .25-06 Rem, .257 Weatherby?
Lance,
The .257 Roberts is dead.Dead.DEAD.
I can't believe you threw a dead dog in the mix.
However, for a new ultra-cool-named smoke pole we could really use a .25/.275 Rigby with a 1/7 or 8 twist.
or the same twist(s) in a .25 Mauser.
But then, we might need a more Americanized name.
I am solidly in the group that would like to see a faster twist option in the .25s.
I like my 26" 10 twist .25-06 / 115 TSX on deer and elk. I'd try some of the Blackjacks and Hammers in the heavies if I could stabilize them without a barrel change. I sold a 22" Alpha Arms Grand Slam .25-06 to build a custom 700 for increased velocity. 10 twist was the desired one in 1999 for me. Thanks to Steve Timm for an article extolling its virtues.
And for you guys pulling for the resurgence of the WSM calibers, Winchester probably took a financial beating when the American shooting public soundly rejected most of them in favor of the old American standbys like the .30-06 and .270, 308 and .243. Kind of like we did with the .45 Glock. We supported the two-time World War winner, the .45 ACP.
For a while it seemed like there was a flavor of the month as Winchester stuffed about every bullet diameter available into a WSM case. Most have been withdrawn, probably due to lack of sales. Of course, I could be wrong.
I'm not hacking on the WSMs, just making an observation of how faithful the vast majority of American shooters are to our old standbys.
