Predictions for The next rifle caliber/ cartridge trend

I think we will see more of the same, coming out with cartridges that are nothing new or advantageous. Marketing them as the greatest cartridge ever made, sell them until the new wears off and introduce another one. The CM and PRC don't do anything existing cartridges didn't already do. The 300 BO is equivalent of a 9mm handgun. All marketing.

I just barreled up A criterion 7 twist 22 creedmoor 26" Northland said all of his 7 twist 22 creedmoor's were throated for 88 & 90gr, I sure 95s will work nicely as well. That combo also shines with rl26
I think I was supposed to type 90 grain, Mine is from Northland also what weight and when did you get it? Maybe mine is coming soon.

NSS varmint contour 26" Remage . Its .820 at the muzzle. I ordered it about a month ago and got it in about a week. They had it on the shelf. Shooting a 88gr eldm. So far it's shooting pretty well. Still tinkering with the load but Its a slow go waiting for a day when I don't have 12mph wind.

Hate to say it, but I think we've got about 5 years before gun laws start to take a serious pounding. If our kids' kids are still shooting for fun, hunting, etc. in 20 years it will be a miracle.

In the meantime, 22 / 6mm CM seems a likely winner.

There's more politicians than people among the general public who wants to take guns away. Politicians are who's pushing the agenda, they got the ball rolling. Gun control is something that must happen for them to be able to implement socialism. The two go hand in hand. Nothing more Nothing less. Socialism is the main agenda driving what they want to do with guns.

The next trendy rifle/wonder cartridge combo will have ALL of the following characteristics:

1. Will launch high bc, heavy for caliber wonder bullets @ 3000+ fps...
2. from a 16" barrel...
3. with little or no recoil...
4. and good barrel life...
5. from a 5.5 lb budget rifle with a 3 position safety...
6. into .25 MOA groups with factory ammo...
7. from a pencil barrel...
8. all day long...
9. with a Tasco scope from Wal Mart.
10. Is the bestest combination for winning 3-gun (only one gun needed), PRS, F-Class, and benchrest matches.
11. Is perfect for prairie dogs.
12. Is fur friendly and good for coyotes.
13. Kills deer and antelope like lightning out to 2000 yards.
14. Blows through both shoulders of a bull elk with 100% weight retention, aggressive expansion, and no meat loss, from ANY distance or angle.
15. IF you feel the need to hand load, Lapua brass is available and no fire forming is required.
16. Owning one of these makes women want to be with you and makes other men want to be you.
17. Comes with guaranteed membership to the COOL KIDS SHOOTERS CLUB.
18. Requires no practice, study, or skill. The owner instantly becomes Billy Dixon, Sgt York, Carlos Hathcock, Chris Kyle, and Thor all wrapped into one.
19. Comes with wallet sized target, showing 10 shot group that is always automatically smaller than anyone else's wallet sized bragging group.

You heard it here first. Keep an eye on the next SHOT Show, when the YouTubers and gun writers collectively scream, "Shut up and take my money!"

Yeah thats all we are asking for sheesh!!!! And swe123 right a new name like Thor-GodofThunder

25 PRC would be easy to do, a necked down 6.5 PRC would be impressive. However without a change a 6.5 would chamber and be dangerous. The lawyers will kill that.

They could just push the shoulder back a tad, to keep the 6.5 PRC cartridge from fully chambering. This would also make the neck a bit longer, since the neck-down would shorten it somewhat. I could see this working pretty handily, and becoming popular. I just don't see that happening until there are more long & heavy bullets available in the .257" diameter. Some of the custom bullet makers are already doing it, but the major manufacturers aren't there yet. Pretty soon ...…….

The next generation will be the 6.6 Creedmoor, or maybe the 6.4 Creedmoor. Doesn't matter as long as no one currently has one, this way we can all buy new ones.

That's actually not a bad point. Unless we buy new products, the American firearms industry will die. so it's really a good thing that they come out with something new even though it's not really new; and that we continue to buy their products to keep the firearms industry up and running. Wouldn't it be horrible if the firearms industry were to go bankrupt and then when we wanted something there would be no one to provide it.

It would be nice if they could produce something in .338 that can push a 325 grain bullet at 3050 and run in a semi-auto.

That would be nice for long range hunters of the largest animals. A specialized small market. Does 338 Lapua AI come close to what you want? It would be great for an African Safari. But could the developer expect it to be profitable? Wouldn't it be more economical to just buy a 340 Wthby or a 375 H&H and have ammo available plus heavy bullets for handloading? I'm thinking sales would be small. But what semiautomatic action would you use?

Not sure what sort of Semiautomatic action, perhaps something similar to what Vigilance rifles or Alexander Arms uses. As far as cartridges go, something between .338-378 WBY and the .338-.408 Cheytac case capacity may work. I can get my .338-378 to push a 300 grain Berger to about 2950 or so before pressure signs occur, I have read accounts on this forum of the .338-.408 Cheytac getting to 3300 FPS (with a 300 grain bullet) or so depending on barrel length. If I remember correctly Rocky Mountain Bullets built their 325 grain bullet for MVs of 3200 FPS or so. A .338 bullet at 3000-3050 may be easier on barrels than the .338-.408 as well but offer better performance than the .338-378. 300 or 325 grain bullet out of a semi-auto platform at 3050 or so would be pretty cool, and such a platform would have other applications besides hunting.

Can the .338 AI propel a 300 grain bullet at 3050 out of a 28-30" barrel? Just curious, I dont own a .338 AI, but if you can get a 300 grain bullet to 3050 I may consider buying one.

I am no expert, but I think some are getting almost 3000 fps out of the 338 AI with a 300 grain; I will ask my friend who reloads for the 338 Lapua AI and He can tell me for sure. He has been shooting out beyond 1200 with his and wants to take it farther. That's crazy but cool.
