Prayers for My Hunting and Fishing Mentor and Friend

Guys I know many of you on here believe in the power of prayer as do I. At the end of last duck season my hunting and fishing partner, Russell, was diagnosed with throat cancer.. He also has rheumatoid arthritis. He's a good bit older than me but I've known him all my life. We certainly have had some times together. He and my uncle Bill taught me pretty much everything I know about duck hunting, setting decoys, calling, etc. He's done the same with catching rockfish (stripers). I owe him a lot. Hunting and fishing just won't be the same without him and I've told him that. He can barely talk now due to radiation and chemotherapy. He has lost all sense of taste as well. The Dr. told him his speech or taste will not come back.

He's been in the hospital again this week. He needs oxygen at home. He has smoked all of his life. Then, he just up and left the hospital.. I have a feeling he's not giving us everything he knows and is preparing for his last days. He's tough, tight lipped, stubborn as H$// and to be honest if he wants to keep that to himself that's his right. He had us take his boat out of the river yesterday. With still over a month of duck season left I have to wonder if that's a sign that things have taken a turn for the worse. Please keep him and his family in your prayers. It means a lot!
Prayers for comfort and peace I pray that he's ready to meet God and his eternal home is with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ 🙏

"O Father of mercies and God of all comfort, our only help in
time of need: We humbly beseech thee to behold, visit, and
relieve thy sick servant Russell for whom our prayers are desired.
Look upon him with the eyes of thy mercy; comfort him with
a sense of thy goodness; preserve him from the temptations
of the enemy; and give him patience under his affliction. In
thy good time, restore him to health, and enable him to lead
the residue of his life in thy fear, and to thy glory; and grant
that he may dwell with thee in life everlasting; through
Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen."

I survived an HPV C16 Stage 3A throat cancer diagnosed in 2017. As a public service, I always encourage those under 40 to get the HPV vaccination (especiallythose of you with teenaged children). 80-90% of adults are carriers of the virus (40k of HPV-caused cancer annually). It's not an STD in most cases - it can be spread through kissing. It lays dormant for years or decades bf it turns active and causes cell mutation. Because it's typically located in the base of the tongue or in the throat (or other "sensitive" body parts), it's often in advanced stages before it is diagnosed, and the surgeries are often disfiguring. I was fortunate that mine was on my tonsil. I required two surgeries but was spared radiation or chemo.

Thanks. I never realized this. I think I had the vaccine years ago as a part of first responder training.

I had a dear hunting friend pass a couple of months ago. He asked his daughter to contact me when the end was near. I had the privilege of speaking to him about how much his friendship meant to me over the past 50 plus years and I thanked him for being a role model for me as a husband and father. I know he heard me as I prayed over him
While he drew his final breaths. I will never forget that experience. Please consider doing be same for your friend Russell.

He did the right thing, I lost my wife, Mom and many friends to Cancer. If it happens to me I will do the same as your friend, Other than I will not do chemo or radiation. Watching my wife and my Mom go through living hell just to die agonizing deaths is something I will not do myself.

i am very sorry for both of you, I wish the best for him and you.
