Powder Question for 7mm Mag

As any powder loads worked up in cold weather you should be cautious with in warm temps. I find I lose some velocity in cold weather about .5 fps per degree and vice versa. Which is not great like H4350 (.17 fps per degree) nor as bad as R17 1.5 fps per degree. Very underrated powder. If your 7 mag wont shoot a 150 gr Ballistic tip and 4350 just get rid of it.

You make a great point. Mine loves IMR-4350 with the 150gr Ballistic Tip and Silvertip. Also the 140gr ones. Most 7 Mag's I've known love the 150gr bullets, most.

I shoot 150 gr ballistic tip, ww brass, cci250 and 62 grains IMR 4350. Right at 3000 fps. I could push it harder but this is my local deer load and works just fine.

That was with IMR-4350, magnum primer, and how many grains on the bullet?

140gr Ballistic Tip and Silvertip
64.0gr of IMR-4350
Federal GM215M
Remington brass
COAL 3.29"
Rem 700 ADL
Avg speed is 3,240

Be careful with the 139gr and 140gr bullets with close range shots, they'll fragment on impact when you hit bone

I use them on coyotes and javelina. For Javelina I take head and neck shots so no problem there.

Stay safe

I've tried h4831sc and Retumbo with 162 eld m's and h4831sc with 175 eld x's. I couldn't get either of them to shoot. Did tons of powder charges and messed with depth. I'd get a .3 group one time and the next it would be an inch. I gave up with those bullets and went to 180g vld hunting and retumbo. Found a load very quickly and confirmed yesterday in 15-20 mph wind. 180g vld hunting at 2900fps over 69.5g of retumbo .010 off the lands in my ~ 24.5" barrel.

I have found a great load using Rl25, I rarely shoot when it's warmer than 30*C (30x1.8+32=86*f) so I have never really encountered the temperature sensitivity that others experience. That said, this load is with 67gr, ADG brass, CCI250 primers, .070 off, but with the 175 ELD-X not the 162's. Getting 3040fps but using a ballistic app it's verified at 3000fps out to 750 yards. The 162's don't really shoot any faster in my rifle and use a few more grains of powder. I think I was around 70.5gr to get basically the same velocity.

My other load that shoots almost identical is as follows.

175 Elite Hunter
71.2 grains of Retumbo
Fed. 210M primer
2.742 base to ogive
3040 on magneto
3000 in real life testing
