baldhunter this was virgin Lapua brass and that worries me a bit.Only 3 shot so I may shoot some fireformed brass next load test.I have some RP and Hornady fire formed brass that would work well.
I have been using this load since 1988 in 3 different 300 win mag rifles and never had a problem so maybe I need to fireform my new Lapua brass with a milder load.
Getting a load to shoot no matter the temp is my goal now.
Yea I saw some recently but I was hoping to keep both kidneys.RL16 will get it done......if you don't have any on the shelf, be prepared for sticker shock.
I know the guy at the Missoula Scheels said there was a bunch of it a few weeks ago. I ended up having a buddy stop at a Scheels in Colorado and pick me up 4lbs.

The only problem you experienced was sharper recoil and slight ejection marks, but it's still shooting into one hole? I'm not sure I would change anything especially if this is a hunting load and you will be using it in colder temps.

My brother uses H4350 in all his 300's.
Good point, and to top it all I was using VIRGIN Lapua brass!Some at our range said the virgin brass could exhibit some high pressure signs until fire formed.The only Lapua brass I have ever used in the past was 30-06 virgin brass but I had a great load at .6 grs lower than max and had no pressure signs before so I expected the same results.
Basically looking for other options besides my old stuff.
Hope my wife don't think that way!

I would go with H-4350 as it is a temp stable powder with the approximate burn rate as IMR. Or H-4831sc
Jim's Hunt some has said I may not get 2960 out of H4831sc but I'm not afraid to try.

Like someone else said. It's a hunting rifle and it's shoots great in colder weather as well as warmer with a little pressure. Why fix something that isn't broke. Just don't shoot it in a 100 degree day

Nothing wrong with trying something different but that's a long time for this combo to be working good for you.
Sometimes the grass looks greener on the other side but really isn't. I guess you can just jump back over the fence to the IMR if needed.
