Our Youth 2022 - No Idea on the History of the United States.

I don;'t think all modern generations are a problem or ??
But I do think there is a huge difference in what a large portion of today's generations that see and the knowledge they have is WAY different than say 30 yrs ago, as you brought up!
I highly doubt many kids if asked the same question back then would NOT know the answers as to today's kids
the SIMPLE things almost everyone knew in the past is NOT being learned by modern generations in again in a large amount percentage!

you take simple question that people 30 yrs ago wouldn;t even flinch on , today's generations cannot even answer, even those trying to FIGHT for rights on the subject they cannot defend!
a simple example is, WHAT IS A WOMAN!
I doubt anyone couldnl;t have answered this 30 yrs, be it a drunk kid on spring break or a child or any adult
yet today's generation cannot answer it any more!
its issue's like this we OLD FARTS have problems with, and all the more so the parents and teachers that cuddle and avoid the answers confusing folks on the subject more than they are helping answer it!
parents today are NIGHT and day different than they were generations ago, parents today cuddle kids more than ever IMO
NOT all, but many sure do
and IMO< its this, that leads to that entitlement issue so many have and effects there learning due to it, add in modern tech, and we have what we have

like it or not, there is a huge difference in common knowledge of this country as to yrs back, nothing to do with folks like Elvis car, or what ever you wish to try and compare changes too! do you really not see common sense going absent in people today as to yrs back, even at the age of 59, you should see this happening
no degree's or being 100 needed to notice this in the current population and generations IMO!

things like this are scary if you ask me and leading to a society of misfits and morons! be them educated or not!
man woman, male female, NOT a hard question to answer by folks from MY generation!

WOW is all that I can say.
I am in my late 60s and have seen such a dramatic change in Society, Moral concepts, the break down of the Family Fabric.
Being raised in a Society that had Moral & Family Values and looking at what is happening today on the Daily News is not my USA. I did grow up in the 60s and went into the Marines. That era was a change in the USA with the Viet Nam War. Segregation - A divided Country. Schools & Universities really made a huge shift in indoctrination of our youth with radical Professors and the Socialistic/Communistic views on how we, as a society, should live in the USA and change how this GREAT Country was Founded as a "REPUBLIC". The 60s Movement was not NEW, it has been going on since the early 1900s. History shows the evolution on how our Society has been changing. The most IMPORTANT part of History is not and won't be taught if you have radical teachers to teach our children. Look at other Socialistic/Communistic Countries. The people (children) are indoctrinated from birth. If that is all they know - they take it as truth. I have lived in many countries. The USA is the GREATEST. If you were exposed to
Socialistic/Communistic Countries you would value our way of life and fight for it above all others.
For me it saddens my heart to see the decline of the REAL USA and all of our GREAT Values being taken away due to Socialistic/Communistic agenda's from ELECTED Politicians. More sad is that "WE THE PEOPLE" put them in power to ruin the USA REPUBLIC!

We have been spending allot of time in this country trying to deal with racism, sexism, bigotry, xenophobia, and homophobia which I personally think is the right direction. No one should be punished for being different. The problem is that it has progressed into not being able to define a woman because it might hurt someone's feelings to the point that biological men can compete in women's sports and we are supposed to be amazed because a chick with a #### and 24 inch biceps breaks some women's record. We have a tendency to take things too far to the point where biology doesn't matter.

I doubt this plays any role in why a drunk college kid can't answer simple history questions on spring break. The only difference between now and 30 years ago is that we would be watching it on late night television and laughing at how stupid they were.

I fully agree that we should all be more tolerant of many social the ways people wish to live,
race or color should not be an issue in today;'s society, your love life I could care less with as long as minors are protected and no animals harmed!

However, I have to think that at some point we have to draw the line , that separate what is"NORMAL and ACCEPTABLE" in our day to day lives, if those words/terms are even socially acceptable any more?? I do not know, so sorry if they offend anyone??

as I don;t feel ALL WANTS from people to be able to live "X" way should be acceptable, at some point we do have to deny some things , NO??
just look about today as to a few decades back
what was once a perversion, is now socially acceptable , or demanded it is!

I also feel that there is and should be a big difference in something being socially acceptable , and expecting things to be acceptable and allowed!

the way I see things and again sorry if I offend anyone

if one wishes to live life as say a CLOWN<
so be have at it enjoy yourself, I could care less, its your RIGHT to do so, and go ahead and do it!

BUT don;t get upset when folks laugh or stare, or speak there minds(freedom of speech applies here i IMO )
be your way of life being socially accepted , people still have THERE rights to feel and say what they wish!
if feelings get hurt, its life, as long as they are not PHYSICALLY harming you, ??
don't cry!
and don;t expect everyone else to support your ways, be it in physical funding or special treatments!

as hey, clowns get laughed at, made fun of and???

BUT all of this stuff , has NOTHING to do with people today lacking common information about the USA , the country they live in, or basic knowledge!

It is still perversion and not socially acceptable. Most people are just not willing to call it what it is. The few with the loudest mouths try to make us believe it is not.

The only people responsible with where our YOUTH are going is the PARENTS of children raised in the1990s to current. Parents just let their children go Arway on the internet and "GAMING". They were not "PARENTS" just some sex couples that had children and thought that they would be better than their former parents because of what they were taught in Public School Systems. Just let their children raised on the computer and phones.
I think that most, if not all, on this FORUM RAISED YOUR CHILDREN GREAT!!!!!
We are in a SAD part of our Country's history!

I agree, but I also think far too many parents want to be friends more with there kids than being there parents!

The Constitution, incorporated Bill of Rights, Federalist Papers all are the bible of of our Republic's citizen's rights that has been deliberately removed from curriculum. If you don't know what is being taken away from you, you won't miss it until too late. If you now bring up the Constitution in any discussion of rights, you are labeled as right wing extremist. Or another bible thumper Constitution terrorist. There is a deliberate attack on the Constitution to label it no longer valid or useful in today's climate. Yep another "climate change".

I think you are reading way more into this than it actually is. Didn't Jay Leno or some other late night person walk around the streets of New York asking simple history questions that most got wrong badly? Some could not answer who the current president was. It was almost a weekly thing or it seemed like it. I think part of it is that people don't retain information they are not interested in. They will learn it long enough to take a test and then almost immediately forget it. It got me through college. Also, your average college student could care less about politics and current events. Lastly, the educational system does not really care whether students learn. They just want to get them in and out, Lets not forget they are drunk college kids on spring break. Why would you expect anything more?
It's more an indictment of our educational system and how it's literally failed everyone. There is no such thing as a good, rigorous, public education. If you want a good education for grade school and secondary school you have to pay for it. The flip side of the coin now however, is that with college you still pay (a lot), and you most likely will still not get a solid education. I know this because I have a Master's and was a teaching assistant and research assistant in college and the kids I taught (at 18 these individuals had the maturity of 12-13 year olds) could not think critically and could not write effectively (for example using proper grammar). The whole system is an absolute farce. Additionally, professors are absolutely simply telling these kids what to believe and indoctrinating them in progressive ideologies. The whole premise for the educational system shifting away from skills based to abstract thought and critical thinking skills was to prepare the future work force for highly skilled jobs in STEM and maintain technological superiority…..I can tell you from what I saw this battle is already lost, American kids can't even tie their shoes without help and the grad programs were filled with Foreign students.

People like to blame the teachers and the school system. I have found that schools are only as good as the parents of the kids going to them. If the parents don't care, the kids don't care, and the school does not care. There was a lady living across the street from me who was a teacher. She quit and became a private tutor. The reason she quit was because she was basically being prevented from teaching. Kids can play on their cell phones, disrupt the class, and even physically assault teachers. If a teacher makes any attempt to discipline the student or even heaven forbid, take away their cell phone for the class period, the parents have a conniption. Its were people take something way to far. Parents don't want their kids paddled in school and as a result they have taken it to a point where teachers can't teach anymore. They are babysitters.

I came to the realization that it was the parents because in the area where I live, there are public schools that far outperform private schools. People discovered that it makes allot more financial sense to spend more money on a house in a good neighborhood with exceptional public schools than to buy a house in an area where the public schools suck and pay for private school especially seeing as private schools are around $25k a year in this area. If you are willing to invest that much in your child's education then you truly care as do all of the other parents who decided to invest in their children and the school reflects that. You can pay an extra $2k towards your house note or you can give it to a private school. You don't get the money back from the private school but the prices of houses in those neighborhoods with good schools skyrocket so you can get allot of your money back. That being said, if you can't afford the neighborhood or to send you kid to private school, you are out of luck. All any caring parent can do is try to help educate their child because they are not going to get much of one if left up to the school system where the other parents could care less.

I agree with this to a large extent on some of your points, but I would add that schools have gotten the way that they are today because of an unwillingness on the part of administrators and school boards to hold students, parents and teachers accountable for poor performance and behavior . It's a combination of complex factors and I will admit that parents bullying teachers and administrators is reality. That being said, so are we underperforming teachers that hide behind unions. Add in a watering down of standards and curriculum and here we are, no one wants to take any blame for an educational system that has gotten perpetually worse over the past 40 years.

The school board is elected by the parents and the administrators are hired by the school board. The parents should be holding the school board accountable. It all falls back into the parents lap which is why depending on the neighborhood, some public schools far excel private schools.

Which "coincidentally" coincides with the Dept. Of Education orginization act in 1979. Anything the federal government sticks their nose in turns to ****. Every time they say they are going to make something better it makes things worse.

I think this is certainly going to vary significantly depending on location and school, but in MA where I grew up in a fairly affluent community, the private religious schools outperformed the public schools in every metric. I attended public schools and transferred in HS to a Catholic School because the quality of education was significantly better, to the extent that we had a large population of Jewish students attending our Catholic High School because of the quality of education there.
