Opinions on current rule for Classified posting

Way over thinking this.
How many "Scammers" has this Forum seen in the last year, three years, ten years.
Did the member that got Scammed do their part in communicating and finding out information on the Seller?

I have not been on this Forum for too long and have not seen but a few bad reviews, but this one Scam from Echo018 has a few members making the Classifieds sound like a Hunting Ground for Scammers.
Even one is too many. And, it isn't just a couple of scammer events that occurs per year. I have been on this site a while also and I believe we make it too easy for them to prey upon us. So what is the reluctance to make it a bit more difficult for them to conduct their thefts here?

I think eliminating the ability for a new member, less than 6 months to start an unsolicited conversation with any member would be a huge step.

Eliminating the WTB option would go further.

I realize that a new member has to start somewhere, but at the risk of someone losing money, it's a small price to pay for the confidence of knowing that your community is strong and forth right.

You as a buyer or seller could look for the vetting requirements you desire.

This is good common sense. I personally like to deal with folks in the classifieds that have been around a couple years with a lot of interaction in the forums and has several positive reviews the their trader history.

That said, I think the following is a good idea too.

I think eliminating the ability for a new member, less than 6 months to start an unsolicited conversation with any member would be a huge step.

I am always happy when Len chimes in to say a photo is required so forth. I try to be helpful and not overbearing but expect everyone to "follow the rules".

While we are at it, can we please do better with marking our ads sold?? It is easy to do.

I make mistakes too and acknowledge most posters have good intentions.

I have been burned for a few bucks when i posted a "want to buy" ad. Simple, I don't do that anymore....

Agree with the 1 month rule to classifieds.

Gday
I like this thought @Rick Richard 👍even though
I'll not personally sell or buy anything on here ( I often look for mates in the states if I know they are after something & used it once forwarding information on for 375h&h brass so I'd hate to give my mate a bum steer ) only from a position of im in Aussie & our paperwork/permit process is hard enough to get through
can be done but private is harder than from a business case in point I have private stuff sent to me on a fairly regular base along with my purchase of projectiles & the private stuff on average is twice as long & not in days sometimes it's months

What I buy in Aussie on line from private individuals I just request a phone number & after contact is made then a picture of the item with a local news paper with it

If that doesn't come I steer clear of that purchase
Just me & how I do things but what concerns me @338weatherby can they photoshop what I request 🤷‍♂️
Yes I'm not very good @ technical stuff

Any information greatly appreciated
Cheers

Not sure if it's done here but you can "flag" their IP address to be added to scammer blacklist for future blockage. Horse out of barn though.

Maybe a nice "selfie" holding the item with date.

Scammers prey on trust. LRH has built in inherent trust but members need to remember Pres. Reagan "Trust BUT verify" when using classifieds.

This is a pic from one of the scammer threads showing a photoshopped pic. Note the shadowing on the note with the date and username. The pic as a whole is off.

Dang, @fordy requires proof of life! 😁

I usually just look at how long a member has been here and how they have interacted in past posts. If they are all just rapid fire "welcome" posts or weird grammar I usually stay clear.

only for the guys I know nothing of
you sir I'd have no problem as I'm sure a scammer doesn't hold a sense of humour like that 👍
I like your response as gives me "proof of life " some people still can laugh out load & stir a bit 👍😍😇

I highly regard member involvement when I decide on whether I'll do a classified purchase. Exhibit A:

You have serious question about rifle build(NeWB iNQUIRY. "Long time lurker, why can't I PM?"

Six months later… you have a question about AI Cartridges and their lack of case stretch as it relates to cost in commercial brass availability… ?
(Getting closer to my trust)

8 mos later WTS: savage thread prefit barrel standard shank

Anything after that, I'll volunteer my SSN and blood type. If you know the BC of my preferred Sierra GK? We're gonna have bigger problems
