I have fire formed all of my Bertram 7 mm Saum brass for my 6.5 Gap. I turned all of the necks to .014 and necked down in a Whidden FL die then expanded with a Sinclair .262 mandrel. I then fire formed all of my brass and now when I resize it with my whidden die I am getting what looks like a crimp or a flat spot on the shoulder. I have cleaned the died several times and I am only bumping the shoulder .003. I have tried bumping more and less and I still get this flat spot occasionally. It does not happen on every piece of brass only about 4 out of 10. I have never had this happen before what is going on?

Too much case lube? If it gets up onto the shoulder it has nowhere to go and it can cause dents in the shoulder ...at least that's what it looks like to me from the pic, but it's kinda hard to tell for sure

This happened to me with a 7mm RM a couple years back. If I remember right it was because the vent hole was plugged and air was being trapped in the die. Seems like after a good cleaning it went away. I know you said that you did clean the die a couple times, but just putting it out there in case you didn't check the vent.

Yep I think you guys were right seems like maybe too much Lube was causing the issue. There is no vent hole in this whidden die but I have the expander in the whole Center portion of the die removed since I use a Sinclair mandrel to expand afterwards. Thanks for the help

I have similar dents on my casing with the whidden dies. I switched to unique wax, apply as little as possible, only 2/3 the way up the casing, and on the neck only. When i apply it all over as thinly as possible i get dents. I have to be sure not to put any on the top 1/3 of the body or the shoulder itself.

Give it a try. If you get one that dents, i was able to size another 1 or 2 casings with no lube applied because of the left over in the die, then i would start applying again. I found no accuracy issues with the ones that had dents in them.

Thank you for the advice.
