less sensitive

Single base powder, for the most part, do not contain nitroglycerin, like many double based powders.

The higher percent of nitro in the powder, the faster the burn rate & more sensitive.

A double based powder may be the exact same composition, but different burn rates. The coating applied to the same powder, changes burn rate.

In regard to the Extreme powder line, it is a chemical additive in the 'recipe' when the batch is made. It is not a coating, or an additive after the batch is made.
It is the make-up of the added ingredients.

They are now making temperature-stable double-based powders, i.e., Winchester Staball HD, Ramshot Grand, etc.

Hodgdon re-labels Australian made powders called the "Extreme" range.
The label even says "Made in Australia" on the bottom strip of the label.
