Nice Buck/Sad Day

Man, I hate to see ANY animal suffer. That's why I have personal range limits for shots. If at all possible, I strive for them not to know what hit them. I feel I owe them that effort.

I'm not sure of the specific guidelines, but I rolled up on a deer vehicle collision and the cop on scene pulled his side arm and put the deer out of its misery in the middle of the street. It's the right thing to do.

Pretty sure our highway patrol here in our county do put them out of their misery. I just usually call my buddy from DNR real quick, tell him what's going on, and he says do what you have to do. If he doesn't answer I leave him a message and do it anyway. A short video is also good idea. It's not like it's something I want to do. It's simply the right thing to do for the animals sake. It's not like I'm out there poaching with a sub compact 45 caliber Glock on the side of a busy road.

It's most assuredly the right thing to do.

That is a stud of a SC deer.

While getting hit by a car sucks it is better than what I had happen this year. The pics below were taken on a little field just off of the gravel road on the property adjacent to mine in WV. I had the same buck on one of my trail cams.

The day after gun season opened, my best friend, who has adjoining property to mine called and said there is a very large bodied deer laying dead right on my property line about 30 yards off the road. A bullet hole in the neck and the head cut off. Some ******* had poached him.

I hope God pays attention to that kind of crap. Most likely some big bellied redneck in a jacked up 4WD pick up.

While I have to shoot quite a lot at night for depredation permits, I try extremely hard to go by the
shoot only does. Mistakes will happen unfortunately from time to time with a small buck like a spike and I hate it when it happens. It makes my blood boil to think about someone intentionally shooting or poaching a deer like the one in the picture and just cutting his head off. A person that does that is a thief, plain and simple.
