One more nail in the coffin. I bought a Leupold RX 1000 for ballistics work. The optics were only marginal. Eye relief was poor. It could range a large reflective target out to about 700-800 yds, but a game size target only to about 500 yds. I used it with a glass retro reflector to measure ranges out to 1,000 yds. Not very practical for hunting...
I later bought for myself a Bushnell Scout 1000 that was on sale. It ranges about the same, but has better optics. Now I'm saving up for a long range unit. I'm leaning toward Swaro EL range, but could go Leica with a separate bino instead.
Moral of the story is, don't go cheap unless you plan to upgrade from the start. Buy once, cry once.
