Has anyone tried or compared one of these?

I am sure there will be naysayers. Just wait; they'll be all over it shortly.

I welcome technology and innovations. Gavin did a video of it.

Looks like Garman has some competition.
Competition is good. I just wish they were all made here in the US.

I found this 1994 MIT study on CHIRP and Doppler interesting. It complements Bryan Litz's comment above: https://dspace.mit.edu/bitstream/handle/1721.1/37723/31280347-MIT.pdf?sequence=2. The conclusion is on page 90.

I haven't had the opportunity to use a Garmin, but the Caldwell seemed a bit slow in getting its reading and the screen seems small for the size of the unit to me.
Yes why such a small screen surrounded by a border. Get rid of the border & utilize a bigger screen.

I was getting a Garmin X for Christmas. Now I have a month or so look into the Caldwell before purchase. This is why I usually go to the Chinese buffet instead of the Chinese restaurant, I don't have to make a decision, I just eat it all.

Excellent! I used to work in the electro-magnetic industry in the early 1980s. Technological advancements and new and better products are introduced nearly every quarter. While I do not try to keep it the Joneses, I am always fascinated with technology and innovations. I found it interesting when it was revealed in the SHOT show. I was not going to replace my LR soon, but that might change now that it is out. Heck, I still have my old Crony, and it still works.

I know many folks here own Garmin, and I am happy. I am curious if LR launched its version promptly/before Garmin did if ownership of these two Doppler radar chronograph technology would be the same today. LR scared up on their launch date. The sales of Garmin at my local Scheels are not as hot as they anticipated. Having said that, I like this comparison between the two.

As noted in #1, I expected negative comments. However, none of them have been a showstopper for me thus far. Good luck with your Christmas present.
