3100+ is very doable with a 26" barrel and h4831sc with a 2506.let me guess you use RL powder. Out of 24 inch barrel my 25-06 with max charge of 50.2 of IMR4831 only does 2950 fps with 120 gr speers.
Don't get me wrong I have gotten higher velocities with H 1000 and H4831 (3100fps) but with my rifle and bullet I got the tightest groups with the IMR4831. I quit chasing velocity long time ago once I realized for a hunting rifle I wanted consistency. Your from Gillette and I hunt in western Nebraska so you might agree with me that the most important thing when hunting is being able to read the 25 to 30mph wind with gusts to 35 and get the shot off in a timely manner. Anyway the 135 gr. berger and blackjack intrigue me for a 25-06, but they will have to wait until I decide to rebarrel with a higher twist.3100+ is very doable with a 26" barrel and h4831sc with a 2506.
Accuracy first all the way. The one thing with hunting rifles is that .2 accuracy isn't necessary. I had a hard time convincing myself that. Most of us are the same way pretty much. If I'm at .5-.75 accuracy wise for deer size game, I'm happy. All my LR ground hog loads shoot better but the target is smaller. I always say if I can hit a ground hog at any range, that'd be a dead deer. Vitals I feel are close to the average size of a pasture pig. Being slower in velocity to obtain maximum accuracy is a good plan.Don't get me wrong I have gotten higher velocities with H 1000 and H4831 (3100fps) but with my rifle and bullet I got the tightest groups with the IMR4831. No rumors. Someone posted the advertisement from Berger.Aawwwww....... but there's also a133gr hunting bullet rumored to be out the same time!
Any idea what your freebore is ? Also what's your cartridge OAL with the 131s ?I already have mine, 25x284 throated for the 131 gr blackjack ace. Ruger action, Krieger 1-7 twist 25" barrel. I get 3150 fps out of it with the ace bullets. Have been waiting for years for these heavy bullets for the 25. Actually killed a cow elk last year at 265 yards and the ace bullet worked great but I am looking forward to trying out the 133 gr Berger. I am glad I had this rifle built.
I run the ACE @ 3.177 OAL I will have to get the freebore from my gunsmith but I can get you the info. This rifle is a long action so I can run with the longer bullets. This rifle is a great shooter and I think it will only get better as the rounds add up. I think the 133 VLD will be awesome...Any idea what your freebore is ? My build is on a LA with a CFW barrel to finish at 24. I'm gonna try and get 25" if I can. In retrospect, I wish I'd have ordered a 26" finish length. Either way I'm sure best accuracy will end up being around 3100+/-. I suspect your freebore is around .131-.135. Especially if you designed it around the Blackjacks.I run the ACE @ 3.177 OAL I will have to get the freebore from my gunsmith but I can get you the info. I agree reading wind is super important.
