They finally joined the 25 caliber party. What are y'all's thoughts?
Well at 2900 and roughly 1000' elevation with an 8 twist barrel, you'd be right at bullet stability. 1.5 is your number. Guessing your 257 Wby mag will push that bullet closer to 3300 in at least a 24" barrel. It becomes 1.56 at 3300 fps. Altitude is your friend unless you speed up the barrel twistwhat twist rate would one need for these? 1-8 ? What would be the ideal case? Could a 257 weatherby get it up to 2900 fps?
So a 1-7.5 would probably be ideal. My 25-06 usually pushes 120 gr at 2950 so would the 06 push the beger at maybe around 2800 to 2850fpsWell at 2900 and roughly sea level with an 8 twist barrel, you'd be right at bullet stability. 1.5 is your number. 2950 is super conservative for a 120. A 7.5 is perfect for the 06 cartridge with the 131 or new Berger. You'll easily get 3000+ with the 135So a 1-7.5 would probably be ideal. My 25-06 usually pushes 120 gr at 2950 so would the 06 push the beger at maybe around 2800 to 2850fps
let me guess you use RL powder. Out of 24 inch barrel my 25-06 with max charge of 50.2 of IMR4831 only does 2950 fps with 120 gr speers.2950 is super conservative for a 120. A 7.5 is perfect for the 06 cartridge with the 131 or new Berger. You'll easily get 3000+ with the 135
I personally do not but RL26 is what I'm quoting. I use it in some cartridges but not many. It's a great option but H4831 is alsolet me guess you use RL powder. Out of 24 inch barrel my 25-06 with max charge of 50.2 of IMR4831 only does 2950 fps with 120 gr speers.
My barrel order was for a finished 24". Tried to change it but it was too late. It's gonna arrive at 25" as a Bartlein Carbon wrapped model. I think I can keep it at 25" without removing any length unlike an all steel barrel. There trimmed down to use pretty much at full length. That's why I figured a bit slower than a 26-28" barrel pushing the 131s.VLD pilot you are dead on with your velocity hopes with the 25-284. I'm getting 3151 FPS with the 131 BJ out of a 26" Helix6 1-7-25" twist. I agree the 25-06 should be running a 120 way faster than that. My 25-06AI used to shoot 115 Berger's at 3350 FPS with H1000. I would refer to Blackjacks site as they recommend varying twist rates for certain cartridges. I would error on the faster twist than the slower twist.
