Ok so I finally got the rifle. With the. 2. 1/2,power Lyman Alaskan scope on a Buhler one piece base ! I love it ! Issue now is getting a. Redfield JR base so I can use one inch rings and put a more modern scope on it ! Lyman is 3/4 inch !

I have some Talley bases for a pre 64 h&h action. I ordered them for my 48 but the hole spacing was different, I realized then the 48s didn't have holes drilled in the rear bridge from the factory and a smith had drilled them for the post 64 spacing. They're yours if you want them. Of course I'd measure the holes first.

I bet when the original purchaser took that rig home he thought it was the cat's ***. I have one that was rigged in the late 50s. It had a Bausch and Lomb 2.5-8 with no internal adjustments . There were cams in the bases .

If you can't find the Redfield JR mount I have a couple as over the years I've changed out some of my one piece Redfield JR mounts to the 2 piece mounts, also Leupold and Burris both make the one piece base mount. Sorry, I just checked, I have 2 one piece base mounts for a pre 64 Model 70 but one is a Leupold and the other is a Burris.

A mighty pretty rifle, certainly doesn't look like it was used much
Have you got to shoot it yet?

So nice! I have wanted a pre-64 Model 70 in 300 H&H for about 10 years. Only seen two, but both were priced well beyond my means. I'll keep looking.
Keep on. I lucked out on mine, bought it for around 600 on gunbroker last year. Stock was refinished and a Dall Sheep was carved in the side but still cheap. If it doesn't shoot I have an old McMillan and a 375 blank ready to go. Bore looks like it got a couple drops of salt water in it at one time, wish it could tell its history!
