You really need to check out an SIII (6-24 has impressed me the most) next to your choice of VX-3 out in the real world sometime. I think you're in for a surprise. A big one.

No one has thrown Vortex into the mix, i have never owned one nor looked threw one, but have heard lots of great things about them. Plus i hear their customer service is on par with Leupold which is one of their big pluses.
I've seen one in the shop. First, don't like the reticle, second, not even close to as bright as the VX-3. It is heavier too. It is a good scope, don't get me wrong. But I think it is hyperbole to compare it to VX-3. Again, my opinion.
I'm sure it works just fine for a hunting scope, but I will spend the extra cash and get the VX-3 with the VH reticle.
I have heard great things, but my only experience with them has sucked. Supposedly they fixed their issues, but I haven't heard for sure if that is true because no one can get the scope I want in stock.

If anything could possibly be considered hyperbole about that it would be because the SIII is so much better. Nobody has seen the MOA reticle yet and I'm not aware of any major differences between their mildot and Leupold's so what's wrong with the reticles? Seriously, you need to stop talking about scopes you've never used.

In any case, I hope the OP finds what he is looking for. He clearly doesn't want to spend the money for either it seems. So I think the Millet is a nice affordable way to go.
Now if you excuse me, I just got a call while responding that my VX-3 6.5-20x50 VHR has arrived at my dealer so I will have to go pick it up and check its reticle for canting apparently.

I have $1k to spend on a scope and have not decided yet. I do have a couple Weavers, SWFA SS, Bushnell Elite 4200, and Leupolds, one being a lower magnification VX-3. I had an opportunity to look at a Sightron today and must say that I was impressed. Still haven't decided.
Here is a valid question:
When you shoot, do you dope out ever shot and crank the turrets, or do you tend to hold over. If you hold over, I strongly recommend a reticle with windage worked in.

I looked at a 3-18 OIR ,few years back,glass was great.But did not get one because of your issues.I think for $525- Leupold 4-14 var3 is a good deal, but I also think there is some good competion to check out. I have had great service form Leupold for years. But a friend of mine just had several problems i a row and went KF.

I have had and used a bunch of scopes over the last few years including nikon monarch and buckmaster, bushnell elite 3200 and 4200, leupy vx3's, and a sightron sIII. The Sightron sIII would be my pick for another at this moment for one reason. IT TRACKS!!!! It is as bright as the leupolds or the 4200's and I can crank it up down left or right and it comes back to zero and holds zero. The adjustments are also what they advertise. A 1/4 inch is a 1/4 inch. My elite 3200 10x is still going as well and that thing has been put thru the ringer and dialed all over the place as well. The Nikons weren't bad and were repeatable. The leupy quit tracking on me as did the 4200 elite. That being said Leupold customer service is pretty good. Bushnell customer service absolutely sucks. Thats just my experience for a budget like yours. I am a sightron fan.
