My solution to Magneto Speed

I know there's been several debates about whether attaching the bayonet sensor to the barrel effect accuracy. I believe it does. So this is what I came up with. I made a block that attaches to the front of my rest taking out overnight will a 3/4 inch aluminum rod extended out to attach the bayonet below the barrel

Looks good but it seems to put the chrono a little to low.

I'd add a little height to it so the chrono will get closer to the muzzle.

My version of that would be a piece of flat steel with a section of 5/8" re-bar welded to it. Then I would hose clamp it to the front of my Caldwell rest. If I wanted to really clean it up I might even throw some paint on it from one of what ever rattle can colors I had on hand. You know how simple and innovative we farmers can be.......

Have you tested it out yet? It does look a bit low so wodering if the Magnetospeed sensors will still pick it up OK and give an accurate reading?

Just finished it this afternoon, going to try it Tuesday night. Luckily I have access to a 100 yard tunnel I can shoot in 24/7.

Wanted to go today, but Mothers day got in the way...lol

Regarding its height, it is about .100 lower than it's normal position. Hope it still picks up.

There is some indication that it's not the attachment of the bayo but the gas reflection of the top that gives a bullet a rise. I have seen the bayo clocked around a barrel and the bullet always went away from the bayo if effected. Remote mounting will not solve this issue.

If that is the case and I'm not saying it isn't, seems like they could skeletonize the bracket that holds the sensors as it's the 2 sensors that pick up the bullet and basically times the bullet as it goes between the sensors. Everthing else there is just holding the sensors in place.

It will be interesting to see how it works, but wether it does or doesn't it is still a pretty cool idea and nicely done. It's one thing that makes this site so great. If the bayonet does not bottom out your free-float and make contact it should theoretically improve the first shot by adding weight. It's possible as the barrel heats up that it would cause issues. Great job on a work-around!
